FFXIV DirectX Error 11000002

Hi Rheavis, I use the NVIDIA card to play FFXIV, the Intel integrated graphics card barely runs it.

I use the NVIDIA control panel to change the default setting - the NVIDIA card is definitely enables for the game.

Hmmmm, the BurnInTest passed with no errors on the CPU/2D graphics/3D graphics/Disk/RAM, but it did generate 12 errors on overheating.

I then tried running the fans on max and moving it to a cooler location and re ran the same tests and it passed with no errors.

Do you think overheating could cause this crashing problem?

Just tried the game in DX11 with fans on full/cooling pad underneath and it crashed within 5 mins with the same error. Ugh, this is so frustrating.

I wanted to clarify a few things, the first is regarding one of your troubleshooting attempts:

Today I tried removing my SSD and reinstalling clean windows and the game on the HDD, but it didn’t work.

It seems like you reinstalled the Windows OS on a different hard drive, correct? Did you completely format the HDD while doing this?

Additionally, when the crash does happen, do you notice any patterns to it? Does it happen more often with doing a certain action or while in a certain place? Does the crash change in nature after doing the Windows reinstallation?

The laptop originally came with just the HDD (C drive), and I bought the SSD (D drive) separately (but a while before the crashing problem started).

I had both windows and the game installed on the SSD when the crashing started.

On the advice of this thread I reinstalled the game on the C drive (leave windows in the D drive) and still got the crashes.

Yesterday I removed the SSD, formatted the laptop and reinstalled windows and the game on the C drive.

There is no pattern to the crashes, I can’t pin point it to anything. It was the same after reinstalling windows.

Do you think overheating could cause this crashing problem?

100% yes, it can.

Even if you think you've managed to cool it enough, I'd experiment with underclocking it briefly just to see if that makes a difference.

I'm also encountering the fatal DirectX error 11000002. Mine specifically happens during the Eden's Gate: Inundation Raid. Leviathan does some kind of ability that covers the entire ground in water and makes the screen turn blue. As soon as that happens, the computer locks up, 90% of the time forcing a reboot. The game runs fine everywhere else, only crashes in that very specific instance. I've uninstalled and reinstalled FFXIV, underclocked and overclocked my GPU, checked for updates to drivers (there were none), and even lowered my graphical settings (changed from full screen to borderless-windowed and lowered the overall settings). It seems nothing I can do can prevent a crash in this raid, it's extremely frustrating.

Normagh, if you are experiencing the same issue, please create a new forum post with a System Report for assistance along with any previously attempted troubleshooting. To generate a System Report, simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I just tried underclocking it again and it didn’t make any difference, it’s just crashed about 5 times in half an hour. It’s running at 65-75 degrees Celsius which from my limited knowledge I think is ok? I am totally out of ideas. Thanks for trying to help me.

Rhaevaris - if it is a hardware problem how can I find out which hardware is causing the issue? I can’t find anything to help me online
