Actually subscribers get the ver 2.0 client in October and "early" acess in Novmber. During that time FFXIV reverts back to free to play until SE relaunches XIV in January.
And like TheVedis said. Ver 2.0 type systems will be patched into the ver 1.x client between now and November. So essentially with each patch we are getting a piece of ver 2.0 until the "BIG PATCH" which is the new graphics engine, new maps and new story.
