Its possible, wolf dens already has something like that but only for duels.
Wolfden should have free pvp arena imho
Time to get banned for being mass accused of hacking
I used to love Open World PvP in SWG back in the day. You could hunt down Jedi as a Bounty Hunter or any other overtly flagged Rebels or Imperials. Was quite fun. Not sure it would really work in this game though and as others have said most people wouldn't really want something like that I'd imagine. But it was really awesome having playercity vs playercity warfare going. My friends town I was a part of was completely imperial and had a beef with a neighboring Rebel town. So we'd raid them and destroy all their Rebel installations and anyone flagged overtly. Good times.
In my experience there is generally only one kind of player that wants content like this. They tend to be younger, a little immature, a little hot blooded and eager to prove they're better than other people. They also, strangely enough, never see themselves as the ones getting ganked in this system. They'll want to be the ones doing the ganking, preferably in a posse with their friends, and will defend it as fair because 'lol you can just organize too bro' (hey, this is starting to sound kinda familiar).
Well, let me introduce you to the wonderful content called Lord of Verminion. As it is, it's the activity with the highest execution barrier and skill ceiling in the game. This should be right up your alley, what better setting to prove how much of a badass you are? Unfortunately, it's 1v1 content so you can't team up, but I'm sure a PvP chad like you doesn't need to hide behind their friends. If there's a player on another server talking shit (like me right now), you can just roll right up and put them in their place, no rng, no matchmaking, no excuses. Isn't that exciting, this is what gets you people off right? This content has all of that and more.
As you can see, an open world zone like this already exists, it's called the Gold Saucer. With the addition of that new 'The Slice is Right' gate, it now contains both the hardest PvE and PvP content in the game. So, what are you waiting for? This is the no-holds-barred, endgame zone of your dreams.

On that note, the open world pvp community as a whole is actually usually above the average age for players on games because it's a style of MMORPG PvP many of us grew up with, as opposed to people who started MMOs in like the last decade.

Ah I see, you thought I was joking, but you're misunderstanding something critical. Everything I said about lord of verminion is true, which makes it completely relevant to the discussion. Isn't that what PvP is about? The rush of going up against someone and besting them. Everything you seek in a mode like that, it can provide.
It is player vs player content, the most difficult player vs player content, so if anything I have more right to post here than you do. Remember that the next time you dismiss the opinion of some frontline player because feast is the hardcore mode or something, that's what I think about you too because that's what things look like from up here, I get it.
To prove it, I can offer anyone here a simple wager. Come to my server (or I can come over to yours I guess) and beat me once, just once, and I will never bring it up here again, because you would've proved I'm full of hot air. That's how PvP works, no feast player will give you a bargain like this, but I will, because I'm not 'shitposting' when I say it has a higher skill ceiling.
That's not even the point of my post anyway, which is that an open world zone like that has zero place in this game. But you guys already know as well as I do why, combat is shallow, dueling balance is nonexistent, all the flaws in the present PvP system would be there as well. And of course the toxicity. I'm not budging on my outlook on the mode's demographic. I am right about the character types it attracts am I not? Come on, I know you guys are out there. If you've grown up with it, now it's time to grow out of it.

After entire clown fest of force everyone on freelancer mode, what makes people thinks SE will lift a stone and smash on their own toes by introduce this that only favourite to minority group?
I love world PvP and I'm definitely no young buck to PvP, although there's good feedback in this thread recognizing the threat established pvpers represent to balanced PvP content. The solution is to have randomized teams, very simple. You enter the zone (a la, Eureka), you're assigned to a team, and you can participate. No queue stacking. Penalties for leaving and rejoining to prevent people from trying to get on the same team. Share the instance across the DC even, to really increase player count.
Simply create 'pve' incentives and content ie: rare gathering resources, rare maps, unique equipment, etc. And you have plenty of motivation to participate as a party or solo. Plenty of reward, plenty of risk. Such a system would be purely opt in and couldn't be a detriment to anyone who didn't want to participate if introduced correctly.
