They start off by saying that its changing. But really, let's be honest, this was the worst FF ever at launch.
But I've never been a fan of IGN's articles anyway. Can't spell ignorant without IGN.
/Agree.
FFXIII was eye candy and nothing else. I am a loyal fan of the franchise, and have played every final fantasy.
Having said that, I found the storyline non-engaging and the game to be very forgettable as a whole. (I can't even name 4 characters or 1 town). And the voice acting for some of the characters... *shudder*
As for IGN, a hopeful tone at the end is the most we can ask for at this point.
At least this installs some silver lining for prospect players.
I agree with you and him as well. I can't remember XIII's NPCs either at all but in the same breath it should be noted that at very least I remembered the storyline of it.
XIV's storyline to me is almost as good as no storyline at all and I can't remember any of it because it's such a mess. Same goes for NPC's it's sort of an insult to NPC quest characters in other FF titles to call XIV's quest givers characters at all. They're leve cards and that's all they are currently.
Still looking at the big picture XIII as a game is a complete failure to me as it's almost like a parody of so-called "modern western game design" whereas XIV still is under development and it can be made into a good game if SE let's go of the bad design choices that are never going to be fun. (see all the reviews for further info, do we really need to keep giving them the same critique they've received from pre-launch?)
Final Fantasy XIII > Final Fantasy XII
I agree whole heartedly. The FFXIV storyline has run circles around itself, to the point where the players look into things that aren't even there, in hopes of clarity of what we are fighting towards/against.I agree with you and him as well. We can probabally attribute this to the fact that the vision the original producer had compared to Yoshii's, are at opposite ends.
Still, the focus on the Umbral events shed light on the direction the game is going, at least.
Not even close. I have active subs in both games and have done tor end game. Yes there's bugs, as was to be expected, but to compare XIV's launch to TOR's launch and saying the latter's was worse is far and away untrue. XIV didn't even have end game at launch, or PvP or anything at all other than leves. At least TOR has a dozen instances, with hardmode and had 8/16 man operation content and they just added another one.
But if thinking tor was as bad at xiv at launch helps you sleep at night, have at it.
Anyhow, IGN has some spotty reviews but XIV definitely was and is the worst in the series so far, if you can even compare console games to mmos in the same vein (which you can't). Regardless of best/worst opinions, it certainly gave the final fantasy title a bad name. Even Wada felt that way and stated it publicly. All we can hope for is they buck up and get the game to the level of quality expected of both a ff game and a modern mmo. The latter is key.

Sadly, this might not be true, cant expect 2.0 to be a miracle, SE have a tendency with every game to do things differently and more often than not it bites them in the ass. So we will have to see when there is more information, it still will lack PVP on release, which many of your typical MMO players will be pissed, it will also be p2p which many will say "is it better than gw2 which is free?" and lose out there.
I garauntee 2.0 will still receive some bad reviews, but all with a general "going in a better direction" motto.
