Unfortunately this game was built very quickly on old coding from 1.x that causes issues especially with stuff like inventories, the armoury and the glamour system. The current glamour system is pretty new, and they do update it but only really to expand the number of storage slots and plates. From dev statements on this subject it sounds like most of the things you're suggesting - marvellous though they are - will pretty much make the game explode.

Is this a problem? It's certainly annoying. Should they sort it so this old code isn't an issue anymore? That would be fantastic. Will they do it? Highly unlikely because it would probably mean taking the game offline for a period of time, thus losing them money and players. At this point it's more economically viable and makes more sense to start designing a new MMO behind the scenes and let this one go the way of XI. Which is still fairly popular in fact

This is actually a myth - ARR runs on entirely new code and a new graphic engine (there is gear and stuff from 1.0 but these are rendered in the new engine, and 1.0 character data is just references in a database controlling stuff like setting your EXP level at start), the trouble is the game was designed as a 'closed system' that makes it difficult to implement major alterations into the code, and it is this reason why things like a better glamour system cannot be implemented - the glamour dresser is using workarounds to make it function (this is why you could not remove gear stored in it at first - they were testing the system carefully to ensure the workarounds were stable, and only when they were certain it was not going to crash or even break the game completely did they add the ability to remove gear from it).

It was simple pragmatism - their priority when ARR was designed was to get the base systems of the game up and running and especially stable (unlike 1.0 which was notoriously buggy and unstable as hell) and that meant sacrificing 'fluff' like glamour for later inclusion, and by the time it was implemented the game was already well advanced.

Either way, FFXIV supposedly running on '1.0 spaghetti code' is just a stupid meme at this point with no basis in reality. ARR uses entirely new underlying code, but the client is programmed in such a way that major changes cannot be implemented into it easily. It's unfortunate, but that's life I'm afraid.

Rumor or not, it doesn't take away that by this time in its life-cyle it already looks like it needs a considerable overhaul if they want to keep it adding/upgrading systems and features.

    If you say so.
