I'm half Chinese and I work in health insurance for the Chinese in the US and the coronavirus is a very serious concern with a lot of people and even I am at risk of infection, so the local forum troll spreading lies about the Chinese during a crisis as troll bait is pretty disgusting to me. This troll has no shame and his racist lies DOES NOT BELONG ON THIS FORUM.

It's not necessarily a matter of immaturity. Gallows humour is a legitimate thing - common among those who work in the emergency services, soldiers and those who have survived a brush with death. It's just how some people cope with the harsher elements present in the world.

Chances are, they're laughing at the OP's horrendous attempts (if you can even call them that) to troll. I mean, I am too. He could use the most 'insensitive' subject in the world and still make people laugh.

It doesn't matter if they are laughing at the original subject matter or not. To the people actually effected by this I doubt they would find it remotely funny and they don't if you look at the replies he got from this "joke". Just as their opinion is that this is funny, mine is anyone who pokes fun at others pain is immature and needs to grow up.
