I liked that miqo'te saved the appearance to use later. Got bored of it. This is literally the same au ra I've used for years. I have my veena, au ra, and now that last miqo'te saved for a fantasia later.

..Though, I'll probably let my sub run out until the next update anyway.

Seriously though, I was just joking about revenge of the au ra, but they just started coming out of the woodwork.

I've really wanted to be a male Elezen but they're too lanky and awkward in their movements, have giraffe necks that only look good with long hair, and their heads are WAY too small for the body. They also have only one acceptable face (what's with the face that looks 12 years old?!?!).

    I wanted Lord Elrond:

Instead all Elezen males look like DJ Qualls:

Who could you be talking about, I wonder? I'm not seeking to limit your options. The Miqo'te were originally intended to be female-only as far as PCs were concerned, and now the Viera are. Mono-gender races, or races where one gender or the other are vastly more numerous/influential/whatever are a thing in fantasy and sci-fi works (e.g., the Asari in Mass Effect), and it so happens that female-only/female-predominant races exert a strong appeal to me (as for why that is, I'll thank you to back up any assertions with evidence rather than mere assumptions based on your own 'bizarre hangup' about people who lack an affinity for masculinity, since this clearly offends you deeply).

Are the players who insist that Lalas remain short in stature seeking to "limit the options" of those who play tall characters—especially "out of spite"? Or is it, just maybe, the case that people want their chosen race to retain the attributes that suit their personal preferences/RP requirements/vision for their character or what-have-you, and that people who are looking for something else are free to choose another race or petition SE for such a race to be added? (You're also free, of course, to petition for male Viera, though it's obviously something that I'm not going to support happening) You're seeking to limit my options, not the other way around.

Cool story. Well, I'm pleased, and that's all that matters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I wasn't specifically calling you out but if the shoe fits...

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I find single gender races to be pretty tacky - especially when it comes to playable races. Adding Viera in the first place based on 'popular request' was deceptive when a significant number of people asking for them did so because they wanted to see the men make their grand debut. The development team should have just expanded the customisation options across the board instead of adding two incomplete races. Especially when headgear is going to be such a big problem for Viera and Hrothgar moving forward.

I like reptiles, and by extension races with reptilian/draconic features so the Au Ra naturally drew me in.

I don't think any future races would make me want to switch, though I do wish some characteristics weren't bound to specific faces or that you could change your character's default expression because it kind of bugs me that female Au Ra face 3 is the only one that's allowed to look cheerful when idle.

I did love using them in FFTA, but I don't think I'd want one as my XIV character since their physiology inherently prevents them from being as expressive as a more human-like race.

hyur maybe the most boring race, like everyday human, but my character is the one i can relate to, even though she's far prettier than me, that's why I'm playing hyur for several years now, I might try miqo'te one day though.

What's with the Viera hate? I love all their looks so far. No Viera I've met so far was overly gaudy or tacky but showed good taste, especially matching colours. Their battle sounds have a beautiful, Amazon-ish feel to me, savage women. This attribute is usually confusing to people's minds because it's the opposite to what we are used to. (Men = Hunter, Women = Collecting berries and vegetables). To be honest, and I talk to many Viera because I just like them, I don't even know if they can laugh - because I've never seen it happen yet. Attitude-wise, Viera also are the one that are in the green area so far, too, so I guess all of this non-Kawaii and non-supper-annoying-high-pitched-voice anime style attracts a certain playerbase that again comes with a certain attitude and mindset I like. I can't point my finger on it, but in general, Viera are fantastic - their visuals, their voices and the fluffy tip of their ears. When there is a female Mi'Cat or Lalafell that always screetches with every arrow they fire, you will love those determined "granny" grunts of our furious hares.

As I am always about 1 Meter in size since June 2010 (when I played my first pointy-eared midget ever) and love to be the small - not necessarily cute - species, I will never play tall characters when I have a choice. No question I'd be a Lalafell forever. For some strange reason, or maybe luck, the those species were also awesome and well-designed in every game so far (especially the Asura in GW2) to compensate for their lack of size. Here, I like the rough Plainsfolk voice and my Plainsfolk eyes, as well as the proportions of shorter legs and arms. The Duellist gloves (RDM gear) are so overly huge on tall species it looks as if they don't really fit, on Lalafell they look very comfortable and snug fitted. Same with the short, but thicker Lalalegs. Since day 1 (when I've seen the promotion material for FFXIV) I've wondered what's with the obsession with long, thin legs and overknee leather boots this game has. Overknee is fine, but tall species look like they wear stretched drainpipe overknee boots - which looks borderline ridiculous. On my stubby Lalafeet however, it looks actually normal as it is "counter-stretched" to fit the Lalafell stature; almost like an aspect ratio fix you know from your TV. Especially since the Duellist set that I wear consists of leather gloves and leather boots - it looks better on Lalafell. While I love the look of X'run as it goes well with his size and his tail add a lot to compensate the looks, other species have this impression of wearing oddly stretched-out clothes. Lalafell emotions also really appeal to me, this twist of light-heartedness while being a cappable killer, protector or healer is just great. Remembers me to the way-too-cute-to-be-evil Salazar guy from Resident Evil 4 with his appearance and voice while being one of the main antoganist. The toddler tantrum he fits when Leon is not being impaled in one cutscene made me laugh so hard!

Mi'Cats and Au Ra share the same issue. They look like human that went to Toys Я Us and bought fake tails, contact lenses and ears/horns and play cat or lizard. They simply don't have the features or attitudes. The horn placement - if you want to call it horn, because normally horns serve a purpose and this purpose can't be fulfilled in the position they are on Au Ra skulls - is off and often looks like bony collars or pinball paddles hanging off of the side of their heads. Male Mi'Cats are for some reason more tolerable than the females and appear to be able to be very handsome fellas visual-wise. Au Ra men look too angry and seem to frown 24/7 like coming straight from a DBZ-wannabe franchise. What I really like about both male and female Mi'Kitties is their wavy tail. It adds a third dimension to the characters visuals and emotes - from flat beanpole 2D to 3D. A large sword can help with other, non-tailed species.

Elezen and human are nothing too special, but surprisingly nice to look at. There is this one player here (with the White Mage signatur gif) and her mugshoot looks friendly, calm, nice. Female Elezen have the same vibe to me - in times where everyone wants to be the new supermodel or ... red light district inhabitant .. it's nice to have this uncomplicated beauty. Give them a nice hairdo and they are done.

    Hrothgar
    - well, I have a personal problem. Since I met the Charr from GW2, Hrothgar just...big cats. They do not really carry out what their looks imply. The Charr are huge predators with massive claws, deep voices that run on all four legs which gives them their animalic feel. Fantastic. Here we have jeans-wearing spoiled Lion Kings Princes that spend more time grooming their hair and looking into the mirror. They are visually great to look at but not what you'd expect.

FFXIV plays it safe. It is like a buffet that is never going to be too exotic. You may not get a big surprise, but on the other hand, you are pretty safe. And I rather have cooks that know their few dishes to perfection than going somewhere they have no idea about - like a Brazilian selling generic Kebab - it'll never be as tasty as in a real turk-run Kebab joint. FFXIV has great visuals with their specials available, people just need to combine them cleverly (Species vs Clothes vs Profession they play as)

    Sincerely,
