I do not sprint at all except we had a hiccup (e.g. dying and/or wiping).

I enjoy the game, I am here to play it, admire the places, dungeons and that with a normal pace. What do you guys from getting to stress everyone? Is it your energy drink overdose so you can water your virtual plants quicker and then call the game boring and a chore because you have "No content"?

I had tanks dying because they ran off before I could even summon my fairy, they respawned, I /bowed at them and we kept moving together. A death can get them from "Kid on sugar rush" back to "Leisure time activity". It worked like a charm.

If you want to sprint as tank, fine. You spank it, you tank it - isn't that your motto whenever you decide to let a DPS die? My motto is: If you spank it, see how long you'll survive it (without me).

We obviously have a conflict of interests here, but why would my or your statement ("To sprint or not to sprint!") be the ultimative and only right way to play the game? I, however, do not create threads though...
So far, I had zero problems with my behaviour since 2014 and I doubt it will given the regular decency of waiting for 5 seconds can save your virtual lives and the fact my queues are instant if you want to kick me at all.....

I am expicitely talking about sprinting, not about walking.

    Sincerely,

    Your medium-speed Scholar

A significant part of Sprint all too many tanks are seemingly unaware of: Mitigation.

Sprint is fantastic if you use it shortly before engaging the first enemy of a group pull. 20 seconds is more than enough time to reach the stopping point of most wall-to-wall pulls, and the amount of damage you simply do not take en route this way that you would have taken without sprint is not insignificant.

So for many healers out there, maybe don't look at that tank sprinting and get all flustered thinking they're trying to get out of your range as much as possible. They might just be using the tools in their kit to their fullest.

As a SCH, I used to have a great skill to aid with these pulls called "Miasma II", which would slow the movement speed of enemies, it was a nice mitigation tool to have for trash pulls (at least when it used to apply heavy). For some reason they replaced it with Art of War.

But actually, I don't mind tanks making me work harder on those pulls, obviously don't over do it. Means I get to use my tools better.

However, my argument is generally, your pull should be appropriate for the skill of your party. If the healer is struggling, you might be pulling too hard, that could be your skill or gear as a tank or their skill or gear as a healer. But if I see people struggle, I usually take that as a sign to no go as hard. Conversely if it looks like we are well on top of things, I'll go harder.

Same goes for me to all the time. That's reason why never do ex or savage content.

When I'm healing I really prefer when the tank doesn't use sprint. Because if I fall behind then there's no way for me to catch up. I want to have sprint available for myself so I can catch up or for escaping wide AOEs I don't have memorized, and not waste it trying to keep up through the whole run.

So, what is the best practice regarding tanks and sprinting? I've only been playing a few months, but I main PLD and I'm always looking to improve. I've been deliberately not sprinting between pulls to help keep the group together, saving it for escaping from AoEs or maybe picking up adds.

I'll use Peloton as necessary to move the party along to the next set of mobs. Always amusing in full parties when 1 or 2 of the party are so far ahead they're out of my range but at least we'll catch up. Once enmity is gained the effect is no longer available and movement slows down. I save Sprint for those "eeep!" moments when moving really fast matters, hopefully only once per encounter.

Peloton / Sprint / En Avant.
Basically anything to get me to those treasure chests everyone else skips and back to the party without missing any GCDs.

    Meh.

    If I sprint, please do
If you sprint, I will too
    Ignore this arbitrary rule,
my comm goes to the player who is ahead of you
