Bikini tanking has logical reasons, like distracting enemies and having full body movement*. Think of Conan the barbarian wearing just a pelt. Crafting in thongs over in limsa keeps you ready for the beach, while still being covered enough.

It makes complete sense. I'll have you know my sun hat bikini glam on a tank gives me the same amount of protection as my gunbreaker in an armor glam. We are living in a simulation, and the perceived "armor" offers the exact same amount of protection as a bikini.
