Good reading! I appreciate some good references to back a take. Beyond being mostly evil, I can definitely see the similarities between them and what we know of male Viera (being silent assassins and all).. and Viera lore definitely yeets the men away from a life enjoyed in relative comfort and social contact. I would like for something similar in terms of size, tbh. Not Au Ra levels of dimorphism (which isn't the case with Drow anyways), but different from the norm. Short doesn't have to equal somehow worse or less than the women, and I think its a slightly more creative take than just having them be The Two Genders Personified yet again.

Very interesting read. They sort of remind me of the bosmer from elder scrolls in terms of height. Bosmer males are shorter than bosmer females. While I don't care that much about male viera's height, I think it would be nice and unique if they were slightly shorter than the females. However, it's not as if I would be really bothered if the males were taller. Honestly, I think if male viera are added, a max height male viera would most likely be taller than a max height female viera.

I haven't really caught up on the current discussion in the thread, but I saw something about hrothgar. Personally, I was never opposed to the addition of a beast race to this game. Initially, I thought the addition of male hrothgar was a good thing - of course I was disappointed there was no male viera, but I understood people wanted a beast-like race for a while now. Adding female viera and male hrothgar made the most amount of people happy imo. The people who got viera got what they wanted, and the people who wanted a beast-like race got what they wanted. I was cool with it until we learned that male hrothgar's hair was tied to its face. This means players would have to fantasia to have access to certain hairstyles - a problem even female viera doesn't face. Because of this, I thought maybe male viera should have been added instead after all.

I don't really mind the fact hrothgar is using a male roegadyn base or anything. I think hrothgars make a nice addition to the game. If their hair wasn't attached to their face, I would say that adding male hrothgar alongside female viera was for the best.

Indeed - they can toy with the extent of the height difference the height slider allows, rather than making them short as a rule.

height sliders in this game, though, aren't just height, they also adjust girth/width.

So they can't, with the current system, have extreme height potential on the sex without also having the small height appear extremely slender, the large height appearing chonk, or both.

That said.... I don't get where this concept that the males should be smaller keeps popping up from... the Au Ra are pretty off putting for me in just how large the height difference is, and I would side with others in this thread who want them to be right about the same height. The men don't need to be explicitly smaller, even exact same height options would work since female viera are so tall already.

I'd prefer them be just a bit shorter than the women, but not by more than a head or so; and even then, like Senn said, I wouldn't be bothered if they were the same height or a tad taller; I just have a preference on the matter.

Would defo main male Viera if they were in the game so I'm 100% in for having them (alongside Fem Hrothgar ofc). I would love them to have a pretty boy look to them but also give them some faces that are more on the tough look for people that don't dig the pretty boy look. Oh and yeah a good range of height is always a plus. Also hope they touch upon the headgear/hairstyle access for the Viera and Hrothgar because that's also kind of an issue itself.

It doesn't ignore anything, its a simple fact and statement that 1 game has been around much longer then the other. Somehow a simple fact ignores points and opinions.
I could make a soft bet that if FFXIV has been around as long it would have more customization options.

A game that came out later than another should imo be improved. I doubt people would accept a shooter with shooter mechanics from ten years ago. They would rightfully say that a game from 2019 should have learned from past games and improved on it. This is the same with FF14. Its younger than WoW so it should have at least more improvements or not lacking behind other games in that section. Of course they cant do everything the best but their customization is a joke, their housing is a joke, glamour storage is a joke and so on.

Its a great MMO but they could and should improve.

mildly shorter, sure. Not ideal, but not what I personally want to see....

I'm thinking more of the posts from people who want them massively shorter, like lalafel levels of short. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for a fantasy game, but there are sometimes sticking points, especially when they're been so baked into the lore, where I have a hard time doing so. To me, it would seem if the men of a race are that much smaller, that the larger females would then consider them weaker and needing them to protect them, so they would never be allowed to leave the villages and likely would be forced into subservient roles to the much stronger and larger females than being kicked out to fend for themselves.

But that's just my thoughts on the matter.... and why I think they should be close to the same height.

Ok guys, so after lookig through everything I could find regarding this issue and learning quite a lot from a game developer and an animator who I met at my university, Im gonna say, dont expect this a day sooner than 6.0. Even if they could release it in 5 minutes, male vier and female hrotgar are literally enough to sell an expac by themselves, and they will be using that for that exact thing when 6.0 comes arround. Once 5.5 comes arround though, I think its EXTREMELY likely we will be teased with a female hrotgar model in Bozja Citadel and we will see a male viera as part of the MsQ. Then, the second fanfest comes arround and they're both showcased in a trailer. The third one comes and after saying everything else, they go: Oh yes, and guys, it has been a lot of work for the team but we can deliver on what you were asking for!. After seeing a documentari on the birth and rebirth of FFXIV, I'm sure they'll do this. Yoshida said that even if it costs millions, its worth using every penny to ensure that the customer will keep playing your game and trusting on your decisionmaking, and while most ppl wont leave the game because of this, this can ensure that there will also be something that will still be pulling players to keep playing the game and regain their trust with a few, yet important individuals. Additionally, I think its clear they are plannign on releasing them. Just not anytime soon,. Its still over 1 year away. The way the gender icons are portrayed in CC, hwo we almost see a male viera in raktika and they say they wish he could be introduced to us, the way that we ae going into Bozja Citadel and we will likely find a female hrotghar there, how limited the new races are, since that is quite likely to be due to them also working on 2 more models, if not it would be very strange for SE not to be able to finish soemthing like 2 character models in almost 2 years. Just guys, have a bit of patience until 6.0 and Im quite sure this will be added. (btw this isnt confirmed so it isnt any announcement, there's a chance that we will never have them playable)
