height sliders in this game, though, aren't just height, they also adjust girth/width.

So they can't, with the current system, have extreme height potential on the sex without also having the small height appear extremely slender, the large height appearing chonk, or both.

That said.... I don't get where this concept that the males should be smaller keeps popping up from... the Au Ra are pretty off putting for me in just how large the height difference is, and I would side with others in this thread who want them to be right about the same height. The men don't need to be explicitly smaller, even exact same height options would work since female viera are so tall already.

Same place as the concept that says the men should be explicitly taller: "just because". It's preference, really, but some people are adamant on not letting others have opinions or interests. I'd prefer them be just a bit shorter than the women, but not by more than a head or so; and even then, like Senn said, I wouldn't be bothered if they were the same height or a tad taller; I just have a preference on the matter.

mildly shorter, sure. Not ideal, but not what I personally want to see....

I'm thinking more of the posts from people who want them massively shorter, like lalafel levels of short. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for a fantasy game, but there are sometimes sticking points, especially when they're been so baked into the lore, where I have a hard time doing so. To me, it would seem if the men of a race are that much smaller, that the larger females would then consider them weaker and needing them to protect them, so they would never be allowed to leave the villages and likely would be forced into subservient roles to the much stronger and larger females than being kicked out to fend for themselves.

But that's just my thoughts on the matter.... and why I think they should be close to the same height.
