

I'm not sure if someone is willing to spend 100$ each time they want feel the lulz of despawning a mob in a game.

The fact that it's possible at all is the issue. And there have been multiple people who have admitted (gloated, even) about doing exactly this, multiple times (outside of the game, however - which means SE typically rejects it as evidence) so the "willingness" element, while a minority, is sufficient to prove that something else needs to be done to address this grief exploit.
Hence, the suggestion that the Forgiven Gossips be updated so as not to despawn upon reset. Maintain the timer they have built in, to keep the urgency and time-sensitive rush. But remove the despawn, since it's primarily been used maliciously by a very small minority to deprive the majority of content.
