Does “road to 70” pop completely at first 70?

So I realize that some folks might purposely lie in this discussion just to troll me, but if I can reach a consensus of multiple answers in the same direction, that might help!

Having recently returned and rerolled for the first time since ARR, I now have the “road to 70” buff. I love it. The current plan is to use it to treat the level cap like it’s 68-69 for as long as the buff persists (a max of 90 days apparently), which I don’t really mind doing. I like the crafting and gathering systems after all and wouldn’t begrudge a full compliment of DoH/DoL’s just below 70 before heading further.

...But is that needed, limiting myself like this, to keep the buff? Does the buff fall off my character entirely the moment any class dings 70? The shadowbringers storyline beckons, after all. Must I resist it for that sweet-sweet XP buff?

You can use the road to 70 buff for all classes without worrying you will loose it after reaching anything on 70.
You only won't recieve any exp with a 70+ class, but as soon as you change to a class under 70 you can peacefully continue to use it.

The buff lasts a set amount of time(your 90 days). Any class below level 70 gets the bonus exp for those days. The buff doesnt track if you level every class to 70 in that time, or none of them. Its just an on/off switch for bonus exp that stacks with all the other bonus exp sources.

And i get that this is the internet and that people suck, but why would anyone lie to you about a buff in a video game that you can theoretically research for yourself? That just seems SO pointless and dumb.

That’s mostly my brain coming down from WoW’s toxicity still, where I could picture someone saying “oh yeah, go ahead, ding 70, it’s safe” (if it were not) like one says “press alt-F5 to reset your UI.” It’s a lie that someone gets to feel they wrecked someone’s day with.

But honestly, and this is an actual observation and not a hopeful extrapolation: FFXIV’s community has been really decent in my experience, so I should give them more benefit of the doubt!

I’m just coming from such a dark place, I’m getting used to kindness again hehe!

Enjoy as much or as little of the story as you like(though, to be clear, a large portion of the in game content is unlocked or gated by completion of various points of the MSQ so its advised that you do try to keep doing them) and level at whatever pace works for you. One of my favorite parts of the road to 70 buff is I almost never have to do anything beyond the MSQ or job quests to level! I'll have to use some other jobs to clear the map of side quests, but in the meantime I'm loving focusing solely on the story!
