9 Million of that are active or terminated Bots and Gold Sell Spammers
4 Million are mostly inactive players which never ever come back either, or are Sleepers, that just return when a next expansion comes or a bigger content patch and remain until then mostly inactive
The remaining last 5 million are mostly actually the active real players that are spread across the whole game and its multiple douzens of servers more or less evenly

I knew, but still wanted just to write it, because that high number of "players" gets always mentioned in regard of FF14, if no with irony or sarcam, nor not - as if it would be something super special XD when the truth decimates this number drastically just to an estimated 3rd of it to get much closer to the realistic truth.

And I just dislike marketing 'hot air' but saying we have so n so much players naturally sounds nicer, than saying we have so n so much created accounts xD
