I guess I'm old fashioned. I just stock up on glamour prisms and make sure to keep my armoury chest relatively clean of junk that I don't need.

I do the same for the most part. I really, really dislike the glamour plate system in this game. It's just clunky and unpolishedI had given it a shot with my DNC and MCH jobs, but gave up after I'd end up with half-glams due to changing outside of towns, and also not being able to update styles on the fly.
XI has a somewhat similar glamour system, in that you design an outfit and save it for future use. But you can also design, edit & apply outfits anywhere in the game, you can save up to 100 outfits, doesn't use any sort of crystal/currency to swap apply or remove, can be used at level 1, and you can use any gear to create an outfit (as long as you can equip it on the main job normally). It's a lot of fun, and so easy to use. I dream of the day they make XIV's glam system closer to XI.

I used to do the same, but in the end I gave in because I ahve too many looks and they don't fit the armory chest, and the ones on retainers I even forget about.
But i also hate the plates, they're so limited.
I wish we had a system like Rift where by getting an armor piece you just unlock the apparance and can change the appearance of every piece whenever, without having to hold any piece or anything.
Wow, it seems crazy that they went backwards on that!I do the same for the most part. I really, really dislike the glamour plate system in this game. I'd like to point out that /lockstyle in FFXI is one of those things that was implemented many years after the game's heyday. It would have been very nice to have in the 75 era, because BiS mixtures could make you look stupid for years (remember it is a horizontal progression game, unlike FFXIV's vertical). Where as, we've always been able to glam our gear in FFXIV(though the plates are still fairly 'new').
lol, this was painful indeed. MNK was my first job to 75 and so I spent far too long running around in subligar, although now I love 'em. Bit of Stockhom Syndrome I think. Not entirely true. Glamour wasn't added until 2.2 or 2.3 iirc. It definitely wasn't in at launch.I'd like to point out that /lockstyle in FFXI is one of those things that was implemented many years after the game's heyday. It backfired? It really didn't, nor was it a subtle insult. Also, ignorance is not an excuse in-game or anywhere else in life. Before you make a comment, the burden is on you is to research, lest you get called out for ridiculous comments. My initial reaction to finding out I couldn't view or change glamour plates outside a city was similar to OP's. Not knowing the why behind it is a valid reason for saying "that's dumb" to a restriction that doesn't make sense. You have to keep in mind that not everyone stays up to date with what SE says. I highly doubt hynaku is saying stable servers is dumb. Next time, instead of attempting a subtle insult that just backfires on you, use some critical thinking.
A comment that is researched and backed by facts is dumb? Please, stop embarrassing yourself. Just do a little research on the topic before you comment on it, and you won't look so ignorant in the future.Your response is dumb. So how is it different applying glamour plates than using glamour prism's and placing glamour old way on gear. It should be the exact same. So wouldn't using glamour prism's outside a city cause game not to run smoothly?. I have yet to see them cause me to loose fps or game not run smooth when using them to glamour gear. I carry on me at least 20 sets of full glamour all the time. I only use it to store gear to free up space for my retainers for crafting mats since seems worthless to me since only can use it in main cities.
