Who is your FFXIV character?

[Saefinn]

I have 3 main characters and am one of those weird roleplay-y types.
Saefinn is an effeminate and recovering alcoholic of a pirate captain (under the Maelstrom's Black Sails). Born and raised Lominsan. Has a massive ego and tremendous luck, yet is stuck with a curse that the more he drinks the higher the chance he gets shot. For a time he did not realise there was that correlation until he learned to stop drinking. He's a learned character, was a runt so was never really all that strong and years of alcoholism dull the senses, so he's more likely to shoot himself if he got a hold of a gun (and has done exactly that, more than once). So he's acquired the self-given title of "Scholar Captain" as it was only his mind he trained and he is a very talented mage; intelligent, yet dumb. He can be a troll of a character at times, he's not very politically correct and puts himself into situations for saying the wrong thing and yet never seems to learn. But he enjoys pushing people's buttons, even if on more than one occasion he's almost lost a lung for it.

At times he can be obnoxious, like referring to the Sekisegumi as the "Sexy-sae-gumi". A Sekisegumi who was having a bad day arrested him for one such comment, it turned out the guy was having wife troubles and so Sae bonded with him, they talked it out and in the end the Sekisegumi felt a lot better. More recently, his first mate spiked his drink with a fantasia and I'm exploring his journey as a female Viera, it was only going to be a temporary gag, but...well, it has been an interesting thing to tackle, I'm doing it as tastefully as I can, whilst my character is more on the distasteful side in nature, it makes for an interesting balance.

X'hayu is Saefinn's partner (jokes about dating yourself ahoy), she was a Garlean defector who was a part of the Ala Mhigan occupation and carries a lot of guilt with her. She basically did a Cecil, took on the path of a Paladin to redeem herself, she saw Nanamo and her desire to help Ala Mhigan refugees and those who might attempt to usurp her, X'hayu ended up taking her pledge as a Sultansworn. She resigned from the role when Stormblood came about so she could help in the Ala Mhigan resistance, especially given her former Garlean background, she felt she has useful information to give as part of the resistance and since independence was achieved, I've had her trying to learn to adapt to a 'normal' lifestyle, where she's not in the military following orders and is struggling. How she ended up as Saefinn's partner I guess can be summed up as 'opposites attract', because for the longest time she hated him, but his good qualities ended up becoming more apparent and she found herself respecting him more.

Yesunova is my third, who is the character I have tied to my forum account. She's from the Azim Steppe, formerly of the Hotgo tribe, for those less familiar with the lore, the Hotgo tribe were massacred by the Dotharl and very few remain alive (and are the reason why the Dotharl numbers are low and are replenishing at the moment). The only two Hotgo we see in the game were a part of the Alexander plotline (Mide and Dayan) and the tribe's founders are said to have emerged from a metal giant, a boy and a girl, which ties really well with how the Alexander plot ends.

Yesunova only knows the stories passed down generations and is completely unaware of the connection between Alexander and her tribe, though I do have plans for her to learn about this. She's a huntress and performer who also can cook. She is probably the least broken of my characters, because she has a very level head. Whilst Saefinn has his alcoholism, X'hayu has her dark past in the Empire, Yesunova may have lost almost everybody she ever knew and loved, learned to come to terms with it, partly as it is not unusual in the steppe and because of the teachings passed down to her - as a result she is very 'zen', has a very friendly and warming nature about her and will often try to see the good in other people.

Initially I started her as a character to challenge my own writing because I've never written a character anything like her, but now that I've got inside her head and figured her out as a character I'm pretty proud of how she turned out and I enjoy roleplaying her.


I also have minor character's I use for Roleplay. But for some of my "dumber" plots I have some gag characters too. Admiral Eorzea (he's dead now, but basically Captain Planet as an eco-conscious mage), Cosmo Kayne (Admiral Eorzea's brother, basically Kanye West) and the Chucklef***s (the Chucklebrothers, who're a national treasure here in the UK).

Ok as Latarma and I go way back as in back to XI. La's story is after the events of XI she's was telported to ezoria. after the events of 1.0 she begain AAR. she often wounders of her old friends form Vana'diel but with the aid of the scions and pother noted figuers she's has come to thin k of Ezoria as home.

My character is like a formless blob with no true race. Transforms into whatever race she feels like suits whatever whim of the day. Loves viera, but every time she switches she gets reminded of how limited they actually are, and switches to something else.

Her backstory is, she popped into existence out of nowhere and has no past. Mostly because I cannot write creatively even if I wanted to.

But what you just wrote was incredibly charming and creative. More interesting than half of these.

Finally got the time, so I'll share a bit on my main, Xiaomu...

The oldest of a set of Quintuplets to Xun Xiang, a Seeker of the Sun father, and Ahzi Zheila, a Keeper of the Moon mother, Xiaomu was raised in martial arts. Prior to departing for Gridania, in order for her to be known and viewed by her own merits rather than as the daughter of her famous Monk parents, she decided to go by an alias: Aria Reis. In perhaps another attempt to stand out from them, she decided to take up Archery instead of becoming a Monk. Though she would fall back to the way of the fist from time to time, she would eventually focus solely on the art of Ninjutsu. After the defeat of the Black Wolf, she would come clean with her lineage. She would initially join the Twin Adders, but would transfer to the Immortal Flames out of disgust of Kan -E-Senna seemingly abandoning Raubahn during the coup of the Crystal Braves (She would understand her reasons later, but still…). While her four sisters are adventurers in their own right, she is the only one who is gifted with the echo (Or so she thinks). Her motto in life is to keep moving forward, no matter what. To live and experience life to the fullest for those who can’t. Her most prized possession is a pair of Adept Thighboots to the point that it is rare for her to be seen without them outside of formal events.

I always name my characters Sam, Samuel, or Samantha in any game I play, a sorta extension of myself, it sounds kinda selfish but in games with character creation I prefer to play as myself as I already play quite a few games with named characters, are the Sams all the same one Sam? Probably, considering it's myself I'm playing as lol.

I'm also not into RP at all, even to the point of creating a headcannon for my characters, probably won't change too.

I got four characters:


Eclaire de Wynter: my main, she's an aspiring hero who wants to do good. Essentially your Shonen Protagonist plagued with self-doubt of herself, her skills, and her dream. Gets better, but some things are hard to run from. Her motivations are to be a hero that inspires another generation of heroes - not for glory, but so there's always people who are willing to do the right thing. She knows it's silly, and probably downright impossible, but what is a hero but one who makes the impossible possible, and becomes a miracle?

She's both the hammiest but most genuine of all my characters.


Kagura Sumeragi: I made the sweet, kindest, most caring person I could and leaned back to say "how do I fuck him up" and I proceeded to create a myriad of terrible issues that made a broken boy with extreme self-confidence issues who feels he deserves nothing. He's gotten loads better thanks to people he's met but he is Daddy Issues: The Anime as everything pretty much leads back to his dad being a terrible person who snapped thanks to Garlemald's occupation of Doma. He is really sweet and kind but has trouble with speaking Common and is very shy. But once you get him comfortable he's very loving. I jokingly call him a living plushie because he's warm and loves hugs.


Kyrie Nightshade: An utter dumbass whose sweet, sincere, and a bit clingy. Was homeless for awhile after Bahamut yeeted her family, the farm, and her life away, leading her to Ul'dah. Thankfully it seems all my tragic backstories get happier futures inRP! She really has no "aim" like Eclaire (and to a lesser extent, Kagura) and just goes with it.


Freya Vyralia: I went for something different from my others. Confident, not shy, fairly outgoing, and a bit more...down to earth. She's a Viera, a Rava, who despises her peoples' traditions after they took her brother from her, and left to Rabanastre....where Garlemald took it over because she's 70ish right now, so she saw it all. She saw the city razed and was captured because hey, she's a rebel! She eventually escaped and got to Eorzea, where she's looking for a purpose now.


I RP a lot, so my tragic backstories just. Don't stay tragic. Which is good!

Most of the time, I just go with the flow of the provided story and leave his life before his arrival to Gridania (my starting city) open and ambiguous, even in my head-canon.

However, one thing is for certain - for most of his life, he hasn't had much to do with other Miqo'te, even from his own tribe.

He might not even realize he's a cat man.
