FFXIV is a great casual MMO even for savage people. If you can get yourself a static raid group you only really need to log in for raid times with them.

Having an MMO that you can “finish” for the week or month and come back to later isn’t a bad thing at all imo.. this idea that an MMO has to be your only game you play and keep you engaged is pretty flawed.. there are WAY WAY to many good games out there to spend all my time playing one even if you made the best MMO of all time.

I work full time, 40 hours on 4 days a week, with three days off. I found a static that raids on my days off and do my roulettes either before or after I go to work. It's easy as long as you manage your time correctly.

This isn't a game where you need to play for very long every day. That's the whole draw. You can cap up on tomes in like 2-3 days of roulettes.

Also just don't do things you don't want to.

I think it's fairly easy to stay "active" in FFXIV, as long as you set realistic and clear goals for yourself.
I'm personally working as a freelancer, meaning my time for video games is extremely limited since I spend a lot of it on work, family and social stuff. I think I play FFXIV maybe around 4-6 hours per week or something.
Which is probably still more than some people, but definitely a lot less than the majority of my FC for example.

I have a level 80 character, I have done some of the savage raids and Extreme trials.
I'm working on crafting at the moment to slowly work through my recipes to get them all done.
I'm clearing up quests from Heavensward as well as slowly collecting all things.

I however don't have every single relic
I don't have every savage kill
I don't have the best gear.

And that's the whole point of this game: You don't have to.
Focus on what is fun for you and play that.
Nobody cares if you're running an expansion behind, as long as you interact with the people around you.

Current max item level needed for casual content is 435, easy to achieve with Goetia Tomestones. With that in mind and sticking to only one class (healer/tank preferable to reduce waiting) the amount of time required is just a few hours per week. Extreme/Savage requires more commitment but not the number of hours people usually associated with it when you use the gear available and take a casual approach.

Crafting is the only activity in-game right now that will eat your time if you want to stay relevant. If you stick to culinarian+botanist+mining you can participate in any crafting/gathering related content by using scrip gear.

Im sure your FC can understand. Real life is more important than online, do your job well, get cash money, take some days off and you have plenty of time to play. I was the same when i worked, didn't feel like wasting time on FFXIV after working and was too tired. Instead i played some shorter single player games or watched some movies. I don't really bother with FC's myself, our leader is hardly ever on and a few people are round, i feel free to do whatever i want without being attached to others.

The only people that can stay on 24/7 are those who work from home on their pc, technical support and such.

Yeah, you can spam Eden once you get a tank or healer to max, just roll on everything, theres no limit anymore on how many items you can get, Facet items ilvl 450 can be bought of the market too.
