I mean, how do they know about the materials in the shard?

And didn't we want to stop the melding of the worlds? Now hordes of gatheres bring the shard piece by piece into the source

Yes, this was a minor head-scratcher for me, too. How would the skybuilders in the Source know anything about materials in the First? As far as lore goes, this stretches credulity at best, and breaks immersion at worst.

But, oh well, I chalked this up to another case of gameplay and lore segregation. The L80 playing areas are all in the First after all, so it's no wonder, really, that there is where S-E would want players to go to collect their L80 materials.

I had that same thought, and mentioned it to a friend. It really doesn't make a lot of sense to need things from the first for Ishgard on the Source. I am guessing since Diadem reworking isn't ready, the devs just put them with the rest of the lvl 80 things.

Well, it's not that we can't inherently move objects between the worlds, but more like the difference between bringing back some souvenirs from a neighbouring country versus invading it and wiping it off the map. Literally.

Yeah, in the german version, we don't get that nice and really cool flavour text from the english versions. The items are just described as 'materials for the restoration of Ishgard', which just adds to the confusion.

The wood from rak tika basically confirms this. Quote is "Obviously, none of the skybuilders has even heard of the Rak'tika Greatwood, though the specific qualities they seek in their timber can most easily be found in the white ash trees that grow there."

It's the same "logic" behind turning in goods crafted from First materials to Rowena or the Grand Companies. Just roll with it.
