There's not really any reason why the Scions couldn't have tagged along.


With that said, it's better if you don't try to rationalize everything. The first thought I had when I entered this duty was "You're telling me that these mines/caves immediately lead out into a giant open-air factory, and nobody knew about it despite the existence of airships and flying mounts? Hah!"
