I used to play this game four years with PS4, then it died and was time to upgrade my desktop because that was dying as well. But it is true you have to buy the lisence again (cheaper at some places) but the graphics and game experience has been better on PC. Even I am still stuck with a controller...

This game is built for controller play and not very graphics intensive; I'm on a normal PS4 and I do Savage content.

Anyway Black Friday is in a little over a week so there will definitely be plenty on sale. Looking on garage sale sites can also net you a deal; friend got a barely used PS4 for $200 with several games.

Don't know about all the console licenses and everything. But a trash laptop at that price range isn't going to be that great for gaming, especially going into next gen. More convenient, yes. but if you want a laptop that will last, and still be decent, you will probably want to spend double that. At that price range, you would be better off building a PC (desktop), or buying a prebuilt - if you do not have the experience.

However, if FFXIV is the only game you plan on playing a laptop at that price range is probably "good enough".

I've had the same laptop for 3 years and it runs the game max settings like a champ. I cant even begin to imagine playing this game on console comfortably, plus computers have more use if you're just worried about ffxiv and no other games.

Im not sure how good other brands are, but mine is an msi and it runs pretty much any game beautifully. Ps4 pro is kind of a waste of money imo.

If your only gaming interest is FF14, just stick with PS4 and consider a Pro.

If you want to venture out onto other MMO's, consider a PC.

Well, if she had a computer she could've changed that part instead of throwing away the console as a whole. And this "heat generation" is a myth I hear since ages. Laptops - especially gaming laptops - are designed for those higher temperatures. Less voltages, quicker throttling and mobile parts are engineered for a reason. Also, the temperature threshold for CPU are often 100°C and above and then the lifespan of the part is long enough to survive for several years even when lowered. Disks like it when it's warmer actually.

I ran the original version of the game on a GTX670. Granted, it was 1080p, but I had stable 60 fps. That was 2012 hardware. I am sure any "normal" mobile GPU can handle this game on a satisfying level on a budget system.

Played on PS3 - PS4 - PC in that order. game loads so much faster on PC. but i prefer playing with a gamepad rather than mouse and keyboard.
So much easier, neater and faster in my own opinion.

With the next generation of consoles around the corner, as they are, it might be smarter to invest in a decent desktop PC and start playing games on that - You can always upgrade it later, the PS4 pro though? Nope, best you can hope for it to sell it at a loss and get the next generation console along.

Trust me, now is a good time to get in to PC gaming especially with black friday coming up. It'll take you like...40 minutes of research for how to build a PC, its commonly referred to as "Lego for adults" for a reason, its so deceptively simple.

So yea...If i were you, i'd build a desktop PC and start playing games on PC - You then have the option of many different controllers including both playstation and xbox controllers, and keyaboard and mouse, and games are typically cheaper on PC, and you can upgrade it when your performance in games starts to suffer.
The only real downside is that yes, you're going to need to buy a new game licence for FF14 for PC.
