To this day, I'm still afraid of blue aoes and still manage never notice Earthly Stars.
Aoe PTSD is real, folks. If an aoe is not yours, it might kill you!
(Except Collective because it looks very friendly and you have an AST friend inside)
As a new player, and as a tank, I don’t want to be associated with this type of entitled attitude. I have been tanking in MMOs for nearly 8 years, and I have never once called myself the “leader” of the group.Haukke Manor, I'm tank. We load in and I start running forward to pull. Just as i'm beginning to pull 2 group, someone says that someone DC'd (they didn't), so I bring the pack back and 3 of us kill em. The "DC'r" returns (so he was afk) and we continue. I pull the 2 floating chicks and the group at the locked door, a pretty easy pull under most circumstances, we wipe. I start slow pulling and continue on past the first locked door and head down the hallway to the first boss, pulling 1 floating chick and 1 group, turn back to find that the other 3 weren't there... they were in the optional locked room, tanking and dpsing the mobs from that room without me. I asked them to stay with the tank to which I was met with a snarky "stay with the group". I responded with "last I checked, tank dictates the direction and pace. Screenshot taken incase you guys try and abuse the kick system." Was met with a bunch of vitriol and then the healer stopped healing me (they were from the same server so I assume they were with each other.) They eventually kicked me and I instaqued right back up and likely finished the dungeon before the other group. I did report them for kick system abuse and the GM seemed like he was going to bring the hammer down. Hope those a-holes got their accounts suspended for abusing kick system. Good times.
Hell, every time I enter a dungeon I give the party the same warning, that I am new and if they would like to kick me for a more experienced one, I don’t mind. I ain’t been kicked yet!
If I was the DD or healz in that group, I would have vote kicked. I am not going to be harassed into something just because you are a tank. Having a GM supporting you on this is hard to believe too.
Was doing expert the other day on NIN and the tank consistently pulled mobs out of my dotons.
I kept thinking that by the time a tank is level 80...... and is carrying an ultimate weapon (oh yeah, that), they should probably know what a doton is?
Guess not.
still a baby ninja but the corrupted earth thing seems to freak some people out
Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.
If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your nextexciting adventurehealer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.
two ASTs in Diurnal, both tanks with aggro buff on... hehehe
(just Castrum Meridianum but still... interesting)

Ah yes, I encountered the classic "I am the tank, I dictate the pace (and how your gameplay has to be too)!" play in Sastasha today. Should have been suspicious when I joined in progress as healer (15 minutes elapsed) and they were standing just in front of the part with the clams and shade seekers. I wasn't and that made for a real nice conversation later.
So anyways, I catch up and the tank starts pulling. One pack at a time. Not even taking additional shade seekers, which die in one hit usually, no. One pack. Usually I'll just run ahead a bit to let them know but this specimen just kep standing where he was, hitting single target skills all day (and possibly all night judging by the pace). After the electric cat or what-in-the-world the first mini boss is he kept going with this so I took a second pack and brought it to him to give a stronger hint. He just dropped Royal Guard and we killed the mobs while 3 were hitting me. Afterwards I get a "you pull? you tank" to which I replied that he can very well pull more because I can easily top him off with a single heal, it's only Sastasha. "oh lmao no I go at my pace not yours" he typed, followed by a "you tryna be tanking dps healer or what? tryhard".
At that point I was already guessing he was a nutcase that I'd be unable to crack so I just asked him why he'd intentionally slow down the run. The answer I got wasnt very enlightening but not surprising either. "I am the tank so I pull and you only heal"; "stop trying to dps all the time wtf you should heal me" - ah, yes. That kind of mentality. I tried to vote dismiss but it was immediatly rejected and I got a snarky comment in the likes of "oh you wanna kick me now?" which made me realize they were from the same server and probably a pre-made group that already lost a couple healers to their attitude. Asked to be dismissed myself and they luckily did it but not before giving me a "absolute trash healer omg" comment beforehand.
A+ gcbtw, would leave Sastasha after 7 minutes withould penatly again.
You can leave a duty that you joined in-progress without getting the penalty. But since they dismissed you one of them got put on the 4 hour CD to kick again, at least.Ah yes, I encountered the classic "I am the tank, I dictate the pace (and how your gameplay has to be too)!" play in Sastasha today. I find it happens less with Doton then it did when Flaming Arrow was a bard skill....you know, the ground target fire ring that was the exact same as Doton, with red-ish colour instead
It has been there since the death of the dinosaurs. Everyone should know it's a good thing to yank mobs in by now.
I tanked an expert tonight and pulled the mobs IN TO the green swirly circle the SMN put down.
I actually still don't know what that one does, but I know the SMN is doing it and the bad guys probably go in there.
