I agree with the OP. Its also arguable that having multiple threads about the same topic would also increase visibility. Agree that a thread with 50+ pages on the topic would suggest the content needs reworking.
The developers have mentioned in the past that they tend to address issues according to threads that get the most attention: not fifty threads about the same thing. 50 threads with a handful of posts or less each is less feedback compared to a thread with 50 pages of 10 posts each, usually. Plus, their Q&As are highly based on the “likes” (usually), so having a megathread usually guarantees more likes on the main arguments, which means the community team may be more likely to pass it on.
Generally, thread consolidation as a whole is a better practice. Less clutter to dig through.
