Registering my concern here as well. I have chased achievements for so long; once did a Hatching-Tide event at 8 fps from a deployed location to make sure I did not permanently miss the achievement for it. It is not the Diadem items or mounts or titles, it is having the completed achievements in my list that is irreplaceable. If these become permanently unobtainable, I know it is something that will bother me every time I look at my achievements list going forward. After reading this thread, I suspect I am not the only one whose game experience would be negatively affected this way.
Dead content removal is understandable, but advance notice hurts no one. Witness how the early broadcast of GARO's terminal date half a year beforehand boosted participation. Every seasonal event quest throws up multiple warnings about not being obtainable after the event end date, presumably for the same reason. There is a history of the game warning players when something that could permanently affect them is coming.
There was no comparable advance notice for removal of Diadem, and the damage from that is multiplied here because Diadem achievements --especially the randomly timed emergency mission-- require so many people for sustained periods. Expanded participation was scarce until it was known the content was being removed. Had there been six months of activity at the levels Diadem 2.0 saw in its last weekend, I am fairly certain those expressing concern here could have cleared everything they needed in time. I could try over the next 3 days to complete the achievement for winning 50 pvp Verminion matches, but the queue for a single game on Crystal as of my last attempt was something over 2 hours. Were that content announced as leaving, people would prioritize, I could get matches, and 50 wins would become possible with enough time.
Some have commented we should have earned these achievements sooner, and that by waiting we showed we were not really interested. I want the achievement for leveling Monk to 80 but did not do it immediately after 5.0 came out because I have no reason to believe they are removing that content from the game, and worked on other achievements. If they announce Monk and its achievements are being removed, I will prioritize accordingly, but I see no reason to play FFXIV under an assumption that any and all content is subject to permanent removal with no more than a couple days' notice. In fact I do not think that is a type of game a completionist would enjoy playing at all.
Announcing Diadem was being reworked conjured notions of its 3.55b makeover which still allowed obtaining the old achievements. My hope is that now it comes back new and improved, but with the same --not replaced, not renamed, but the exact same-- achievements in the list available that we would have had if we had earned them three years ago. Fingers crossed!
