I really have to wonder what people are doing that say they've been playing for more than a year and haven't gotten 1500+ comms. I had over 1k before I lost my Sprout, and that was during late HW.

Some easy ways to get comms, as any role:
1 - Say hello in some fashion at the start of the dungeon. Make a macro if don't feel like typing "hi o/".
2 - Play well. Not decent, not ok. Play your job well. Avoid the AOEs, use your support abilities. Due to how many mediocre players there are, it's not hard to stand out.
3 - Be social and friendly. Talk about upcoming changes to the game you like, how excited you are for getting that item you're close to getting, how excited you are about an item you recently got. I'm pretty non-social in most settings, but I do try to get people talking, especially in Prae.
4 - Wish people well at the end of the dungeon.
5 - Be the Last Man Standing when it comes time to leave the dungeon. Sometimes people will try to comm someone and they'll leave before the comm be made. The window is already open and they'll just click another name. Be the only option and you can get that comm.

Biggest way to get comms that doesn't rely on role, though, is to be friendly and social.

If you're comfortable with playing Tank or Healer, both of those roles are more likely to get comms than DPS ever will be. A Lala will boost that chance even more. A cute/witty name for your Lala will boost it even more. I know Lalas are food, not people, but they still comms more frequently than the other races.

The problem with the comm system is that it doesn't take into account certain factors. If you run with other people, for example, there's less chances to get comms. If you use PF for whatever reason, you won't get any at all.

And sometimes people just don't care. You can be friendly explain and mechanics to new players and just get nothing.

I think it should be less about comms and more about completions, like having all the ex trials and dungeons done.

mentors don't play with their friends, they help randoms, thats why mentor roulette is locked behind commendations.

I say nothing 99% of the time unless someone says hi first, and I tend to get at least 1 commendation 3 out of 4 times.

2 - Play well. Not decent, not ok. Play your job well. Avoid the AOEs, use your support abilities. Due to how many mediocre players there are, it's not hard to stand out.
    This I can agree with

Again, I rarely say anything, 99% of the time it's just a hi or "\o" in response to someone saying hi.

4 - Wish people well at the end of the dungeon.
See response to numbers 1 and 3.

5 - Be the Last Man Standing when it comes time to leave the dungeon. Sometimes people will try to comm someone and they'll leave before the comm be made. The window is already open and they'll just click another name. Be the only option and you can get that comm.
If someone is watching a cutscene, sure, you can stick around until they finish to potentially get their comm.

Biggest way to get comms that doesn't rely on role, though, is to be friendly and social.
    Again, 1 and 3.

The race of your character has nothing to do with getting commendations, competent players get more comms than those that stand in all the AoEs and don't make use of the appropriate skills at the proper times(AoE during big pulls, party wide buffs, etc). As long as you're making an effort, and not causing people to worker harder rather than smarter, you will likely get a commendation. This still relies on the other players decided to actually GIVE commendations, or that they are actually paying attention to what others are doing to notice the small things(or big, such as dodging AoEs).

And this is all based off of my own experience as a DPS main(since before HW), who has over 4k commendations

I'm rereading my post and trying to find where I said any of my suggestions were/are a guaranteed way or the only way since that appears to be how you read it.

I think you're being far too serious about this whole thing. Lalas are more likely to get comms, catgirls/boys and bunnygirls being a close second. I don't know why you're twisting what I've said into a claim that race matters more than skill, either. It's like you got offended by everything I said and felt the need to call me a liar.

I gave suggestions and you roll in being mad.

Who said anything about me being mad? I pointed out what I have experienced over my 5 years of playing this game.

Tbh there are plenty of reasons, from just not doing group stuff often to playing mostly with friends to playing alts - or heck, taking breaks from the game.

I spent a year or so playing an alt and now have a few hundred comms sunk into a character I'll probably never play again. I've also taken several breaks from the game. All told, I'm sitting at 1059 comms, having started right around when HW came out.

At any rate I think the whole comm thing is silly. They're not much of a good measure of anything in most cases, other than time sunk queueing for stuff with randoms. I guess there's merit in that, but it says extremely little about actual group contribution or positive attitude. I've gotten 3-5 comms in groups where I *know* I did poorly, and didn't say a word, and was just probably the only dude not in a premade group. I've also given comms to the dude with the cool name because it was an awful run but they made me smile. It's a silly measure for aptitude for mentorship imo.

So in regards to earning commendations.

From experience these come super easy from solo queuing roulettes as a tank or healer as long as you don't suck at your job. DPS seem to get commendations far less frequently unless you have a good looking glamour. Also DPS tend to wait far longer for most queues so they aren't going into duties as often. Additionally if you add friends or FC mates as party members to queue together you reduce the max amount of commendations you can get in that duty by 1 for each person added.

So, if your complaint is not meeting the commendations requirement to keep your mentor crown the solution is to queue regularly alone for duties as a tank or healer since those jobs are generally in demand.
