Oh, crap. I remember the person who got me to buy the game mentioning that after I finished 2.0 MSQ for the first time. Neat.

In the past two years since SB came out, I was able to:
Earn the fancy robe
Earn the fancy fat chocobo
which implies more than 1500 commendations in two years.
During that time I have done a moderate number of dungeons, no more than I care to do, not even keeping up daily requirements. Minimal grinding of DF content (outside swallow's compass, that caster glam), spending time doing content where commendations are not an option. On top of this, taking long breaks, one being over half a year.
And also, maining DPS to do most of the above.
Commendations are not that hard to get fam, if you do your job well. ANY job.
^
I feel like the only way one would be struggling to meet the comm requirement would be by not actually playing the game enough.
Over 2 years of playing, I've somehow ended up with (as of this moment) 1824 comms on my first character and 919 on the second one I made just before the 2018 Moonfire so slightly over a year ago. And the vast majority of my playhours are probably concentrated within the first year when I was still discovering the game and obsessively sampling all available content. Since then, my DF routine has consisted predominantly of doing 2-3 Alliance Roulettes and 3-4 Expert Roulettes a week to cap off tomestones and, if applicable, the occasional weekly clears of relevant Normal/Alliance raids for whatever tokens are available at the time.
Everything else I do is crafting/gathering, RP, hunt-trains, farming EXes in PF and raiding with friends, none of which are sources of commendation income.
Why is it then, that even though I've split playtime between 2 characters and deliberately reduced the amount of Duty Finder content I do to the absolute weekly minimum, I have accumulated 2743 comms, 1243 more than necessary, in slightly over 2 years, but allegedly some players who have been playing for twice+ as long and presumably with only one character aren't anywhere close?
Maybe I was born with it? Or maybe it's... my cute glams? That's probably it to be honest. I don't do much else to stand out, unless we're counting saying "hi!" when I enter duties and then playing to the best of my ability on whatever job I am (which for any job that isn't my main 3 means absolute garbage... then again, I suppose somehow tripping over the BLM rotation is impressive in its own right so perhaps that has earned me a few pity-likes?)

If someone is struggling to get commends as a DPS i welcome you to the PVP.
If you play well and communicate you will get a commend each game.
A good way to get commendations is to Fantasia into Lalafell. Everyone loves Lalafells because they are so smol and cute. Getting 1500 commendations is not hard to do at all. Just be good at your job and be a positive member in your community.
Fried popoto enthusiast.
Alternatively, they could try levelling a healer to... is 10 when Guildleves unlock? Either 10 or 15. Even though a healer within the Guildleve level range can probably be played to its full potential by a lab rat trained to repeatedly press a button, I remember always coming out with some comms. I assume that most players running that content are new to the game and don't understand what is happening around them so they default to comming a healer with the assumption that if the party has survived, surely the healer must be responsible for it. Or something.
So... I guess if someone wants to farm comms, that would probably be the fastest and least effort-intensive way? On the other hand, does someone cynical enough to farm 1500 internet points that way deserve to be a mentor? Does... anyone deserve to be a mentor? What are mentors for, again? What's anything for? What is the meaning of anything we do? Is anything even real? What is reality? What is perception? What is existence? And why?

You've been playing for two years and you don't have 1500 comms? mmmmmmmmm I don't think we're hearing the truth here.SE would grandfather in almost anything else but you don't grandfather us mentors. I am going to keep this short. You don't respect how much time and effort I have put into the game so far. You don't respect that I have been a mentor for over 2 years. Then you don't need my $30.00 a month. Maybe you will respect that.
I don't have that much comms because I mostly run content with friends. I don't think comms makes a good mentor requirement since you could be playing a lot of contents with a group of people you know or like most people play DPS which do not often receive comms as healers and tank do.
That said I don't know if that big of a deal to be a mentor. I was a mentor for a while but I could easily help people as a normal player.
