I just about meet the new requirements for being a mentor (another week or two, tops), and I hardly play at all. If some people think they deserve to be a mentor but have less of the requirements than I do, that's pretty sad.

You earned Crafting mentor because you put forth the time and effort into crafting side of the game play. You don't get to be a battle mentor if you haven't done enough content, dungeons, trials, raids, etc to earn the 1500 commendations. Though your attitude shows and personally you don't deserve the crown in general. Though I can see why you haven't earned enough. Maybe a little humility and you'll achieve it someday.

The only thing that bugs me is now I would have to level a healer all the way to 80 to get my "Full" crown back; I was still a little surprised when they gave me the full crown in the first place, since I don't have any healer jobs.

I never even really tried getting coms and am a rather casual player, yet I have 2000+. As a DPS main. So, it is kinda manageable.

1500 comms is quite easy to obtain if you're an active Mentor. And if you want it so bad, do more dungeons to farm commendations.

Considering your post i'm glad they removed it from you to be honest. Totally not the right attitude.

Regarding the actual decision of commendations bar being increased, i think it is absolutely the right move. Just like your gear requirements keep increasing, your retainer requirements for ventures keep increasing, your comm count for mentor status should dynamically increase. I dont play the game as much as i wished, i play other MMOs and RPGs on all other machines (PS4, XboxOne and Switch), i just do my expert roulettes, normal raids and levelling my alts and i largely met the requirements of commendations.
I barely talk other than meet and greet, and if there's a wipe, i ask people if they need a tip. Nothing more. and yet i met the requirement.

I think the system is still generous, i would have set the bar at 2000 personally. So that people who care about the crown have a reason to be even more helpful and collect more comms.

Been playing for a few months now, like three and a half, heard about the mentor status being a bit of a meme, decided to go for it, due to being a reasonably good tank in my own right, looking up other classes and being genuinely interested in both learning encounters, and offering advice to players that I notice making mistakes during dungeons.

When I saw the change to the mentor system for the recent patch, when I was so close to the precious 300 comms, I spat my dummy out of my pram in a rage. How dare they extend my personal grind for the special crown that makes it so I can help people?

Nah, I'm kidding. Despite my move to another server and fresh character, I'm still going to help people and be the best whatever-class-I'm-leveling-today I can, because it feels good getting comms, because it feels like I've put a smile into someone's run.

Plus there's achievements for comms, too, so that's another grind all on its own, and I'm all about that grind

The Legacy Players from FFXIV 1.0 are in the credits as a thank you for playing and paying the sub for that failed game. Without them the re-release of 2.0 would likely not haven been possible.
