I despised Eureka when it was current content. They'd have to let me one shot the world mobs to get me to even consider stepping foot in there again. Those relics can stay there and rot.

Are you sure about that? Because I could solo a level 52 without elemental gear or logos easily on a red mage (with platebearer and bloodbath, you won't even need to heal). So that only leaves the level 53-55 mobs that are mostly on the east side of that cave.

The level 35 quest takes you around level 40 mobs.
The level 38 quest has you trying to get past mobs up to 44 (45, but I wouldn't count the ones in the cave, easy to walk by).
The level 40 quest has you risking your way through 49 mobs (though, again, it seems strangely easier in the caves, once you can get in there).
Pyros is genuinely a nightmare to navigate while you're still low enough to be aggro'd. Hell, just stepping out the gates as soon as you first arrive is a bit frightening, and I'd wager we've all seen newbs racing back through spawn with a pack on their heels, calling for a rez in what should be a safe zone. There's just an unreasonable amount of mobs in the area, too many large clusters, and there really doesn't need to be for the most part. All the more frustrating after coming through the last two zones with their much more open areas.
More on point, I spent a session in there tonight. With the buffs, it's definitely loads easier to solo regular mobs at-level now (attempting with RDM, while I usually prefer BLM, just for the safety heals, which I've been reluctant to fall back on). This change alone does make the challenge log significantly easier to clear on your own, including sprites/ashkin (if you can find things in your range). NMs seemed to spawn fairly easily.
Still think crystal drop rates should be buffed, though. You're still required to NM farm, and despite the buffs, it's still going to take much longer to do now.

You don't have to do the story anymore to be able to mount. So leaving the story quests till reaching max level in Pagos-Hydatos is the best option now. As for NMs their HP scales down to the number of players in the instance. If you were alone in the instance (which was the case when SHB launched), their HP drastically scales down making them soloable and quick to kill. And that was pre 5.1 nerf. Now you can probably solo them with 3-4 in the instance. The level 35 quest takes you around level 40 mobs.

But as a tip to deal with NMs you're not comfortable soloing, if you have to level sync to attack them, unsync whenever you're about to die and heal up. Your unsynced defense would make it a lot harder for them to kill you. Also, conceptual logograms are now dirt cheap on all servers. They can give you wisdom of the platebearer which increases your defense even more.

Okay so....Wait hold on, they made it easier to solo some things...but they didnt reduce the grind? What?
Guess im waiting till its nerfed again lol, the grind was easily the worst part from my limited time in there - it took me a full 4 hours to get up a single level, and while 5 hours for 3-4 levels doesnt sound quite so bad...that still sounds absolutely terrible.
I really hope at the very least that once 5.x's eureka style thing is out that not only will SB eureka be FULLY soloable, but also quicker to grind through...and i hope the ShB one doesnt take 4+ hours to get up a single level either...
2.0 Veteran from 2013. Just looking to be helpful. DRK is Love, DRK is life.
(Ignore the levels on my character card, the tool i used to make it hasn't been updated for 4.0)
The grind is greatly reduced. They gave both a massive echo boost and a massive xp boost. The only thing that is not massively boosted is crystals, but because of the other two boosts those FATES are really easy to kill even just with a small party. I completed Pagos including leveling from level 20 to 35 and completing the entire relic chain for one job in 11 hours across 3 days. It's much faster now.Okay so....Wait hold on, they made it easier to solo some things...but they didnt reduce the grind? What?

P.S. You can even solo most of the FATES now as a RDM. I learned this when the instance I was in became locked so everyone left to join a new one. I was left by myself for around 90 minutes so I just ran a solo FATE train for 90 minutes. It was definitely slower than the 1-2 party FATE train that normally happens, but I managed to collect about 150 crystals just soloing fates during that time.

You'd think they would allow it at this point since almost
everybody and they moms hate the doggone thing and nearly
no one does it. If you weren't out the gate with everyone else, you're fooked.

It was never about the enemies it was about
1) The insane light grinds
2) The insane crystal requirements (especially bad in Hydatos)
3) The inability to get BA fragments outside of the Arsenal.
Neither of those are made better by the new changes. They need to add light, crystals, or a small amount of fragment for to the weekly challenge log if you're max level for the zone and be done with it.
They need to remove the xp on death penalty if you're max level for the zone.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
I have way more light than I need when compared to the crystals needed. The recent changes absolutely made an impact on this, since reaching chain 30 is trivial now even solo and you are guaranteed light at every multiple of 5 along the way with a large amount gained at chain 30. Light is a non-issue.
