Ok i managed to fix the issue on my end. Heres what i did
Locate and select the network connection. After that, hit the Properties button. Now, hit the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) that is under the ‘This connection’, the following items: section. Next, choose the ‘Use the following DNS server addresses’ and then, in the Preferred DNS server, write 4.2.2.2. After that, in the Alternate DNS server, enter 4.2.2.4. Now, mark the ‘validate settings upon exit’ option and hit the OK button. Here, you might be asked to confirm the process, so, press the OK button once again.
Thereafter, click on the Windows Key once and then, write “cmd” in the search box. Now, double-tap on the Command Prompt and press the Run As Administrator option that is present on the result list. Here, you need to apply the below highlighted commands and press the Enter button after each command.
In the Command Prompt, enter “ipconfig /flushdns”.
Then, type “ipconfig /release”.
Lastly, write “ipconfig /renew”.
After this is done your internet will briefly disconnect for approximately 5 seconds and then reconnect. Open up FFXIV and log in.
Do these things in exactly this order. I hope this works for you guys, it did for me.

A fix I have found so far is using Mudfish in Full VPN mode, tried everything else and this was the solution I found.
That didn't work for me - HOWEVER, what DID work for me just now was using a free VPN that was being mentioned by others on Reddit, specifically CyberGhost VPN. You can register for a free 24 hour trial, and I FINALLY managed to get the update to download correctly after installing that and using the Singapore Torrent server (it downloaded at around 5MB/s so it actually was pretty fast for a free VPN.
As to why this specific VPN worked while Mudfish in Full VPN mode didn't.. I really can't say. But maybe this will help a few people out at least.

Wow, that is strange. I used CyberGhost first and it didn't work but Mudfish did.
We shouldn't have to be using VPN's to download patches
I found a fix that works in a previous thread, thought you guys might wanna see it. I didn't need to do any port forwarding, just mess with my IE settings and the compatibility mode of the ffxiv_dx11.exe. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...08-20495-20495
