I did, recently actually. Around the time Hydatos came out. Had a group of 8 go in, killed a few NM's.Go ahead. Try and get in there now. Try and actually take down an NM. I tried back in the day in 3.5. I really really really tried for a really really really long time. 78 kills is what I got before 4.0 dropped and it died. You can get in there if you have a group of people willing to do it (good luck finding them though). But killing an NM is another story, and why a lot of my later attempts towards the end failed. Most of those NMs take more than 8 random people to kill within the time limit of the fate. 8 great players could maybe slog through the weaker ones. Maybe.

It's pretty safe to say that if the achievement removal is, in fact, planned to be final and was communicated in well advance then Diadem definitely would have been booming for months now.

I was originally working on Diadem achievements before Eureka released and I liked it. A lot of the people who didn't like it was because of the RNG weapon on RNG that was BIS in HW behind the EM, but that was irrelevant to people starting Diadem during SB - for us it was about doing missions and getting minions and mounts so yeah...it was fun. I stopped because of Eureka requiring so much time and I legit was going to come back later after doing more eureka stuff (which I'm still working on..well not anymore this weekend I'm all about Diadem. Got 18 NM kills today already. We even beat Brach with 1 party!). Why would I choose to do eureka over finishing diadem? I was afraid Eureka would fall to the wayside like Diadem did and then have a terrible time getting things done in both , rather than in 1.
Even if someone thought it was pure absolute crap, let's be honest - how many people cared about Garo before it was announced to be canceled? Maybe during its release it was something, but most people had never even heard of Garo until it was announced to be canceled. "good" and "fun" are irrelevant. There's an achievement with a title, that people -could- have chosen to work on once they finished [x other thing] and were given no warning about. Garo titles and mounts were given months of warning regardless of actual player interest or whether they think garo/pvp is "good". So regardless of whether it was "good", why wouldn't Diadem be given that same warning.
Also we even went and looked at the other language's patch notes and some of them are more forceful about these no longer becoming obtainable.

Player
Super friendly group and lots of runs going. Good luck.
if I remember correctly the diadem achievements have already been changed once to the ones we have now so maybe they do it again and let people keep their progress.

I love it! I’m only a new player (8 months). I prioritized doing the MSQ and “beating” Garo (all the wins plus grinding all jobs to 60 for gear/achievements/titles). I play every day and only just finished Garo last weekend (no job skips). I prioritized Garo since they announced it was ending with plenty of time for me to do the content. I’m only scratching Diadem and I only got a weekend’s notice
This is a really bittersweet thing for me. I have been lucky enough to be with the Diadem Debauchery group for over a year, but have only one achievement left to complete- Gem and the Hallowed Lands. This isn't for lack of trying, though. I personally have coordinated many attempts at getting this last achievement, but have run into either other players who refused to coordinate in instance, or just the sheer bad luck to not have the Emergency Mission pop. The last 6 months alone, I have attempted to clear the EM 3 times, and failed all 3 times. I have seen the EM countless times during undersized runs, Matron runs, or runs where it was only my party of 8. I'm still trying for the clear, because its the only thing I need. But also, I really enjoyed my time with this group we've cultivated, and even though we can do other content together, these friendships were made because of Diadem. I'm happy that Diadem brought us all together, but so sad that many of these lovely people will not be able to get these achievements they've been chipping away at all because we had such short notice on the end date.
Many people set Diadem to the back burner specifically for the GARO achievements. For a player who only began about a year ago, that's a huge undertaking! Not just the pvp, but needing all the jobs to level 60 to be able to acquire all the titles was a lot. IT might not seem like a big deal to people who have been playing since before GARO was available, but we've had this huge influx of players in FFXIV in the last year, and now so many of them will never be able to get a chance to see if Diadem would even be content they'd enjoy.
An answer on what exactly SE was thinking when they decided to scrap these achievements with such little notice is well deserved.
