for a year, would you rather be secretly filmed at random moments and have the footage uploaded to your social media or loose $100 when ever you said a curse word?
It was such a bizarre decision, too. Especially when you look at the numerous PvP focused games out there that allow players to use items and emotes to celebrate victory over their opponents. I suspect the development team took the 'easy' route and/or they're just getting told the bad stuff rather than the good stuff on many fronts.

It is scary how horrible people behave today and what little compassion they have for others, it really is.

It's scary how you can be compared to a rapist because you typed /squats on a player you've killed yet here we are.
I'm unapologetically as progressive as you can come but I also don't like being told I'm sexually assaulting someone because my virtual dress up doll is doing an emote on someone else's virtual dress up doll.
Stuff like this undermines the concerns, worries and stigma of victims. It's not a productive way of discussing how to help victims. It undermines the concerns by making them look 'snowflakey'.
The mods should've deleted this thread several pages ago.

You seem to forget that there are real people behind the “virtual dress up dolls” as you put it, some who have gone through experiences that no one would wish even on their worst enemy. It is not just a game, it is not just for fun and you cannot justify it simply because emotes and gestures like ‘teabagging’ have been around for a long time. None of those excuses make the behavior acceptable in any way. It's scary how you can be compared to a rapist because you typed /squats on a player you've killed yet here we are.

You cannot speak on whether or not the OP was sincere in what they said about their experience and the aftermath. You should not call anyone a “special snowflake” or that they were looking “snowflakey” by making the post and the comments they made. NO ONE should. It is a very bad insult even if it is not meant to be.
I agree with you that the mods should have shut down or deleted this thread way back, but not for the same reasons. The callousness of the responses is overwhelming to me and I had no part in any of it. I sympathize with the OP. To many of you the post might have seemed silly, trivial or even possibly trollish. But stop to think ... just for a moment ... that it was a real post, a real person with real feelings and real issues. What does it cost any of you to simply show a bit of humanity and common decency when making a response? Why add to this person’s pain and make light of her/his experiences?
Many of you told the OP to not play PVP or video games in general if they were going to be thin skinned. My question is why should we have to be thick skinned to play? Is it a requirement to act like a jerk these days when playing a video game, especially one that is NOT rated M, not a FPS, not a gorefest, etc.? FFXIV is a nice family friendly game for the most part with no real blood, gore, sex, nudity. Just good vs. evil and lots of side stuff to have fun with. No one should have to EXPECT such crude behavior, nor should it be on us to “learn to deal with it”.
I play PVP right now for the tomes. Overall I enjoy it. I have yet to encounter what the OP did and if it does happens, I will have a GM involved ASAP. That is harassment. For some it can be considered sexual harassment. It shouldn’t be taken so lightly. Think about what is actually being simulated. No, I am not a prude in any way. If I get killed in PVP and someone has the new mount that flashes the pumpkin face on you, I laugh because it is funny. If they use their drake to snort fire or something, again kinda funny. That is lighthearted to me. There is a big difference between that and teabagging or using emotes to simulate something sexual.
I know most of you won’t even read this far and even if you do, you probably will not give a rat’s behind about what I have said. I simply think that this thread is just a sample of the state of the world today. People only seem to care about themselves and how something will affect them. They have no care, no compassion for others...be it an in-game virtual doll or the real person behind that character. Simple kindness, humanity itself seems like too much to ask of most people today. That is a very sad and scary reality. The way people act with others in game is a very good indication of how they are behind the screen, in “real life”. If this thread is a true representation of people in general, then what has become of the world?
Being kind doesn’t cost you anything, whether it is toward a person on the street or a character in game. The rewards can be great though.
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts. I wish the best for you all.
Take care ~~ Hina

It's not like people don't understand that it's to your and your teams disadvantage to squat on a dead enemy in pvp, and also a rude/taunting thing to do. They do. This thread is full of people acknowledging that.
The reason why OP is getting callous responses is due to the wording and undue comparisons to despicable acts like rape or assault. OPs experience is valid and I believe that they did have a strong negative emotional reaction to the event. That is exactly why this thread does not belong here.
They chose to go to the OF and demand for emotes to be banned. If they had stuck with pausing gameplay for the moment and speaking to their mental health professional / trauma therapist about this, things that will actually have a direct positive impact on them, the outcome would be better for everyone.
In addition, people are especially sensitive to the topic of restricting player interaction in pvp since it's become progressively more policed, so there naturally is more pushback.
You're probably going to write some 2000 word essay on what I'm about to say, just know I'm not going to come back to this so don't bother unless your doing it for reputation on here? For w/e reason that be? hmm.
Anyways let me dive into this issue of yours as fast as I can.
If you don't like direct player conflict, don't play combat PvP. Why do I say such a thing? Because its common in Combat PvP. Your going to run into 100's or even 1000's of people like that, and its going to happen even after your reading this. It's best to just develop what I like to call, maturity. Adults don't cry and whine about things children/young adults or even other adults emote them over the internet.
I see this in almost any decent pvp game out there. Its funny tbh, if it hurts you...welllll stay away from it, cuz you cant change people. Good day.
Long live Rhosaria!
No, they already took away firecrackers.
