For some reason this suggestion has been made several times in the past and has always met with very strong disapproval from the community, even if it were only optional. People seem to be under the impression it would crash item prices.

I'd be all for it myself.

I can't tell you how many times I've spent more per item only because I didn't want a stack of 99. Often I only want 10 or just 1.

When I post items I do them in smaller stacks and they seem to sell faster anyways. I don't know why people still do full 99 stacks.

    It would.

Being able to list small stacks is our only means of combating bots who typically throw up x99. If people could buy portions of their stacks, it means bots will always have that edge because any price they list it for is pure profit.

The way it is now just puts all the power in the hands of the sellers.
Literally this entire expansion has been about making everything easier for buyers. Prices have dropped to such low extremes, it's not even worth touching the i450 sets—which is supposed to be the crafting endgame.

Because they're most likely bots who don't care one way or another. They make profit regardless of when things sell because they weren't even playing the game when they crafted it.

    Fair point.

It's a shame so many things in the game are limited, restricted or less convenient just to combat bots.
If it wasn't for bots I'd still be all for it. The argument you'd have to undercut more isn't taking into account far more sales, even if I could gather the stuff myself if I could buy 8 ore and I'm right beside a mb I'd buy them.

I notice it most when I'm doing the craft x items achievements. It's such a waste of items. I'll quite often buy a cheap stack of 52, use 3 of them and discard the other 49.

Partial stack purchases seems like a nice option IF it can be disabled, optionally, by the seller on a per-stack basis. One of the greatest free market features is that of lower price for higher quantity. If purchasers can bypass that at will, it very likely is no longer a free market, but is something else. I'm pretty sure I'd find another game to play if mandatory partial stack purchases are introduced.
