From my experience in FF11 and now FF14 the problem with RMT? They are like cockroaches even if you get rid of some they come back in greater numbers. The fact it all can be done with bots so everything is automated makes it infinitely harder to suppress. Pay-to-win model is so common nowadays that telling people to stop buying gil is just not viable either.

I just wish RMT bots were lalas instead of majority being male midlander hyurs... My main is a male midlander.

Bots are a problem in all MMO type games, unfortunately.
My only real other experience with MMOs is RuneScape, which I played during its peak - and that game was really out of hand.

I believe they are taking the better approach now. The RS team does ban players who use botting tools, do real world trading, and share accounts, etc, etc - but the main focus they have now is bot prevention. Changing the game slowly to make botting commonly botted things inaccessible to bots. They also constantly hunt bots to try and control them, but that's more of a fight to manage the number of bots in game. They even have a secret server they can transfer you into to see how you play, and if you bot.

I think one of their strong areas right now is that the system them use to dectect bots is actually really vast, and good at what it does, but that came out of bots almost killing the game off completely for Jagex, so I can understand why they would devote so much resources to stopping bots.

The thing is, if you have a cockroach infestation, you do not throw your hands up in the air and lament your inability to do anything about it. You deal with it as *best* you can. And then you keep dealing with it. And I don't see Square doing that <points to the RMT sellers in every main city who spam for hours>

I still don't understand how gil sellers are still a thing considering:

    1) it's easy to get gil
    2) you barely have any use for gil. people mostly use it for housing and we all know how "easy" it is to get a house.

How can you say this when it's clearly not easy enough for those who buy it? These types of comments never make sense to me. Every time you see a gill seller or bot, their presence will always thoroughly prove these types of comments wrong

I don't care if it's right or wrong. What I want is to understand. Why is it difficult? What is making you struggle to get it? How come you don't know how to get it? and most importantly... What do you use it for?

XIV lacking an active enforcement team for dealing with bots and other forms of cheating is another one of those things it lacks despite almost every other decent MMO on the market having one.

They seem to strictly monitor things at a server-side level then pass judgment based on that data in one big ban wave, but that only weeds out the bots using hacks or RMT spamming, not the myriad others that are not doing anything that will raise a red flag if you simply look at the data they're sending the server (Which is what I assume the STF does).

You only need a functional pair of eyes to be able to tell if someone is DoL/FATE botting once you've seen them retread the exact same path for the dozenth time with no deviation whatsoever.
