I'm not saying the anxiety is just in your head. I know people are genuinely feeling that. I'm saying that this idea that "people are silently judging me while I tank stuff!" is just in your head. People aren't doing that unless you are reaaaaally messing stuff up. :vI'll add that I tank, heal and DPS.
The reason I see your follow up to be trolling is that is that it is fairly well known that one of bigger pet peeves for anybody with a mental issue is being told "it's in all your head" and is often considered to be very unhelpful. Trolls of course can find nuance in their trolling by using language they know will get a hit and when challenged they are free to play the semantics game. Given this thread has approached anxiety as both a feeling and as a disorder, it is plausible you'd try to get hits there.
You made a previous post suggesting you are being medicated for an anxiety problem, whilst showing a lack of understanding of anxiety.
And your history of troll posts doesn't help, otherwise I might be more likely to give the benefit of the doubt.
Folks I've listened to in regards to tankxiety have all said the same thing: They are scared of messing up and wiping the group. Even on my 74GNB and a lot more confidence than when I started out as a baby GLD 3yrs ago(now 70PLD and 60WAR and 70DRK), I still worry a bit about how I'm pulling. Overtime you don't think about all the other stuff, but starting out, it hits you like a bus. Mob control, positioning, CD usage, pace, etc all of that can weigh down on someone not used to being perpetually in charge of 3 lives for the next 15+min.

Fear/Avoidance of negative stimuli in the form of:
1) Potential for combative social interactions.
2) Guilt from mistakes impacting others.
3) Stress from increased attention/responsibility requirements.
Thus, in a game environment, they may elect to bypass additional stressors, however minimal they may or may not be.
Being a tank means you are responsible for keeping the party alive, along with the healer(s). So there's a lot of pressure NOT to mess up. A lot of people don't really like that type of pressure, and that is why dps outnumber tanks and healers 10 to 1. If a dps goes down, then there's not really much harm done outside of Savage and the like. If a tank goes down? Or a healer even? It can take a really big turn for the worse very fast. I've been a tank main since Shadowbringers thanks to GNB becoming a thing, and while I have gained a lot more confidence as time goes on...I still get nervous sometimes. I was a PLD main when I played FF XI years ago, so as far as I'm concerned, things have come full circle and I'm back to where I need to be. The anxiety still lingers a bit though, but with time I will be fine. Going from being a dps main for the better part of 8-9 years across various games is a huge change. And it takes time to adapt.
Thankfully I have only had 2 situations where my skill has been called into question, and only one of them was totally valid. A Titania NM run was ugly, and as a tank I still wasn't sure of how the fight worked. So yeah, the criticism I received was all but necessary. The other one was a healer who wasn't healing enough during large pulls and blamed me for dying despite the fact that I was cycling through my CDs as they came up. Thankfully after a few wipes and a few back and forth responses later we were finally on the same page. And I didn't even need Superbolide once the entire run. I have done these pulls more than enough times to know what people can and cannot do within reason. If I have survived a pull dozens of times prior, and am now having issues, then the issue isn't necessarily with my personal skill level.
If you really have anxiety you already know this isn't how it works. If you don't really have anxiety... this still isn't how it works.
I suspect the number actually isn't all that high, it has simply become fashionable for people to self diagnose and use it as an excuse for any and all inconveniences in their lives. It's particularly horrible since it reflects badly on people with genuine crippling issues because they're not taken as seriously as a consequence.
I've also encountered a lot of manipulative individuals within the FFXIV community who exploit 'anxiety' as an excuse to behave terribly and/or try to shame someone for confronting them about something.
what is the entire point of your thread?
blaming people for feeling nervous to tank roles or that they feel nervous while playing tanks?
p.s "people are silently judging me while I tank stuff!" idea isn't just in their heads since there are those who run third party programs to check dps for a run you know.
you can find plenty of post about people complaining about rdps and pdps (for their class as well as other people they had runs with)

This probably sounds pretty pathetic but I have pretty bad social anxiety irl and it carries over into the game. Basically as long as I make the decision to interact with other players and have the time to prepare for it such as queuing for dungeons or asking a question in NN I'm fine. But if a player randomly runs up to me and starts chatting and emoting to my character I freeze up and usually just don't respond because I haven't had the time to prepare. Luckily this hasn't happened much. Only 2 or 3 times in the months I've been playing. I managed to respond to respond to player that did this recently but I think it was because I was extremely tired when they approached me so I guess my brain decided it wasn't worth the effort to go into high alert and lock up the way it usually does.
Probably boils down to people using the word in the wrong context, or people take what they say in the wrong context.
I do think when people bring up anxiety when it comes to tanking and healing they more so they find the potential responsibly as stressful.
And this is wrong really wrong, because anxiety actually is being used as a medical term for pretty heavy mental disorder.
I had anxiety relative to my health issues when i was thinking about the worst every day, every hour thinking i am going to die in early age, any pain in chest triggered panic attack, feeling heartbeating thinking i am having arythmia and afraid to go to sleep, feeling sick for every serious medical case info (someone having cancer), feeling dizzy, world shaking or having fatique and so on, even tingling in hands associated with having hands in one strain position i was able to call a stroke.
This is anxiety not that tankiexy/healxiety stuff, whenever i hear someone has "anxiety" because they need to play a tank in video game i facepalm with both hands, its ridiculing the serious condition that is anxiety disorder.
Its like someone calling themselves schizophrenic because they cant decide the job to play in the game, please stop this.
