A good idea. NN is typically used as general chat these days, and shout channel to a lesser extent, however a channel dedicated to everyday chat and discussion would be welcomed. Obviously there are some downsides to allowing public chat, but I think the advantages outweigh that significantly.

I made a thread for a request here:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-Regional-Chat

A thread that should be easy to translate, and hopefully can be noticed by mods to bring up higher and higher to the devs.

If a solution to the bot spam is found i really dont see any reason to not add a global chat.
Those with paper-thin feelings that find everything "toxic" and spend more time reporting than playing can just turn it off.

From what I can tell so far they go out of their way and turn the profanity filter off to have more stuff to make a fuss about. Your assumption that they would make use options to simply not see things they dislike is false. Just knowing that these things exists is what upsets them.

There's nothing stopping botters from using shout chat and yet they choose to use /say instead. No, a general chat would have no effect on botters, other than for more of them to be seen by more people to get reported by even more people. Maybe they should do something about the bot problem rather than not giving us features out of fear of the bots they're not taking care of.

But I appreciate the clarification, as I must not have got what you were intending- which is why I felt you were saying no on the basis some people will ruin it a bit (RMT), the "no because we can't have nice things" comment came from that.

Also because OP wanted a general chat (title and the fact they wanted jokes and discussion outside of help like hunts) I felt that NN didn't even fully apply to what they were looking for, at least in the sense that a general chat would work better than using NN as a hunt linkshell. So when you suggested to just rejoin the NN I felt both you were saying no and also suggesting to use NN for not something fully intended (not a great evil to put a joke in there but obviously not the core point of the chat).

Also just as an aside Fellowship, to my knowledge, will not have a chat feature. So while it could be useful for OP I don't think it'll apply to the OP's desire of this thread.

So maybe you didn't intend to say purely no but I felt you were (didn't get the vibe of kind of, though you did indeed say "kind of against" lol- I guess I'm just used of people using that wording and meaning "I'm fully against it" XD. My fault to your credit ). But I guess more importantly felt even if op could join a NN that general regional chat would be better for them anyways (has the features they're looking for in the package they're looking for). That and while it's true that RMT would use it that we could also report it and other measures could be put into place including being optional.

Especially if we had it defaulted to off- right? Then you wouldn't be spammed and bothered to turn it off, you'd have to turn it on lol.

Ah okay that was my mistake. I thought I should have clarified when I first posted it but just didn't. Anyway I'm not against the idea, it's just what I've seen in other games that made a server-wide general chat a concern to me. Bad wording. Also I didn't know Fellowships lacked a chat channel. More you know huh? Regarding RMT what would really help out is if there was a client side filter that automatically blocked messages with specific keywords from appearing or hid them requiring the user clicks on a button or icon on the screen to see it. Most RMT use the same message or a website in their text. Let us set up keywords that automatically block messages containing it.

Bots do on some servers I've visited on Crystal... And I question just what it is they're doing about RMT in the first place. I make it a habit to report and block every bot I see yet my blacklist is nearly full because of it and I'm betting if I wasn't blocking them it would be a good deal more frequent I saw them.

You realize the shout bots are only active for a few minutes before logging out, deleting, and recreating right?

They dont delete characters either when they get banned, so your list is full of bots that haven't been used in months or longer.

My blacklist is completely empty of rmt, and I rarely see it except around the aetheryte in limsa. They mostly only use say now too.

Giving them access to a world chat tho? Terrible idea.

Honestly I'm still a bit confused on what fellowships will feel like myself lol. We have a bit more info and it's like an event calendar in your apartment/community building, or that's what it sounds like to me. Perhaps that'll be used to great effect, I don't know- but it seems a bit strange (not saying it's bad, going to wait to try it first- I'm just a bit perplexed lol). I would like to see a calendar event sort of thing for FC though (moving that mog companion calendar feature set into the game, can keep it on the app too ofc).

Yeah for blocking I'd be fine if players could set up their own block filters~ I imagine creating a bit of a delay on letting players in and also making it optional could go a long way.

I've never been on the NN but once you grow past it, why not make yourself a linkshell? I made one to help new people and have made a lot of friends that way. I would be against world chat unless I could turn it off. I often turn off shout especially when doing something that others have finished such as events, because people just can't (won't) keep spoilers to themselves. There is also Yell, which I think goes farther than shout? I really don't know as no one uses it on Leviathan. Linkshells reach everywhere without annoying those who aren't interested, so I'd say that's the best way to go.

Global chat should be reserved for those at capped level in this case 80 and MSQ progression like how you get rid of sprout status. Since newbies will most likely have access to NN anyway so won't need to get global chat until they high and progressed enough.
