How Do You Usually Greet People in DF/PF?

That's actually funny, because I have seen people get mad if everyone doesn't greet.

Depends on who it is. I can tell you..well you should know this, that at least in the South US, greeting is very respectful and thus very rude when you don't greet someone back. I'm a southerner so yes it will bother me, but certainly not in the realm of "I WILL REPORT YOU". I used to open greetings quite a lot when I started playing this(southern hospitality), but as more and more people(all 3) would not greet back, the less and less inclined I wanted to greet and it would sting every time it happened. Now I only greet if at least one person greets in the party.

Of course it will bug most people, but greetings are pretty important to some cultures.

Well, I lied. I do greet people IF they address me by name. Usually "Hi", and that's it. I never initiate though.

I usually go, "What happened lol?" or something like that when I join in progress.
