I take it you didn't read the release then, which said you would still be able to access the NN, but would just be locked out of Mentor Roulette?I don't mind losing the crown - the crown is only there as a sign that I'm okay with ppl asking me about stuff or that they can get an invite to the Novice Networks from me. But what I will be missing is being in the novice network myself because on most days it's a fun place to be and I like helping ppl there, answering their questions or joining them for a trial or something like that. Without being a mentor I won't be able to do this anymore.
Because it looks like you didn't.
<insert witty and amusing statement here>
Pegasus requires 2,000 runs of mentor roulette? And mentors previously required 300 commendations to become a mentor? If someone is approaching 2,000 runs of mentor roulette and haven't managed to scrape together another 1,200 commendations from mentor roulette then something is very wrong.Dont think most people want the crown to help others... mostly maybe mentor roullete for the two seater pegasus
(i forgot the name)... i think this gonna be extremely frustating for people who are close on getting it but dont have the required comms for the next mentor requirement... just a wild guess though
Exactly my thought. That's why almost everyone seems to throw in stories about how they lost their old account and hd to start over, or how they couldn't play for 3 years bc of their health. Sure that might happen in rare occasions, but my estimation is that the number of folks who just stopped being friendly mentors once they had their 300 recs and thus didn't get any more in years is pretty high. And now that's going to bite them in the a** ^^Pegasus requires 2,000 runs of mentor roulette? And mentors previously required 300 commendations to become a mentor? The problem IMO is that they tried to bring in players into the mentor system by making it achievement-like. Plus the golden carrot (poney) at the end as a reward.
While I do understand there needs to be some kind of motivation, most mentors I know (and perhaps me included) just got the crown "for the sake of it" and then it's done, we can move to something else.
It's sad that we came to a point where mentors tend to become a meme, when those people could just hide the crown on their nametags (like I'm pretty sure most people do).
No, it seems like you didn't read the release completly. What you wrote is only true for the transition period. If you fail to renew the mentor requirements during that time, you lose your mentor status completly and won't have access to the NN anymore.
This is not was written there:
Mentors who do not renew within the specified period will be unable to access the following features:
Duty Roulette: Mentor
The ability to change online status to “PvE Mentor,” “PvP Mentor,” or “Trade Mentor.”
They will, however, still be able to participate in the Novice Network chat channel. An icon will indicate that they are a mentor who has yet to renew their certification.
It's clearer in the german version, where it's stated that those limitations are only true during the transition period, implying that you'll lose access when the transition period is over.
But then again if you wouldn't lose your rights completly it would make no sense for an transition period from 5.1 on until end of december, as you can renew your mentor status anyway any time you have reached the new requirements. So it's only logical that your NN access will end after the transition period.
So yeah, I'm pretty sure that you have full rights (roulette and NN) until 5.1, restricted rights (no roulette but NN) from 5.1 until december during the transition period and no mentor rights afterwards, as you will lose your mentor status if you don't renew during the transition period.

Or you can just stop the delusion that everyone (or the majority) comms "properly" and just accept most people don't comm or they comm for frivolous reasons (fav race, cute glamour, said a joke, etc).Exactly my thought. I didn't see people complain about that when it was 300 coms. That only starts now as they raise the needed amount. So people had no problem getting to 300 coms, but getting 700 more in like 3 years time was somehow an issue? /doubt
It's like being fine with how an election works as long as you win, and then when you lose, suddenly you start pointing out all kinds of flaws the system has ^^
I have been a mentor since the system started and I qualify easily for the new requirements.
But I’m one of those that turns the crown off. In my eyes I’m actually more ashamed of having it on that anything else... the amount of times I have seen players with crowns on being rude, ignorant or plain bad at playing the game is very very high.
I answer genuine questions in NN and on my runs I help whenever needed/asked.
So yes I do agree with the changes, although I believe it is not really that important for this game.
