Genuine question for those upset with the new Mentor requirements

Why do you need a crown symbol to help people?

Can they access the NN and provide answers to sprout questions without it?

The truth is, the crown is nothing more than a status symbol, and one that has been incredibly easy to obtain in the past.

How can it be a status symbol while being easy to obtain? Any topic about mentors always includes comments like this and how mentors are worse than the average player. Both can't be right. I've yet to see someone show off their crown and anyone can look at the mentor requirements to see they're comprised of average players.

So let's be honest with ourselves here. This was never about helping people. It was about feeling superior.

To whom? It's not like you had to clear savage to get access to the crown. I think any feeling of superiority comes from those looking to up the requirements and reduce the number of mentors. They want a status symbol but there have been too many bad players tarnishing it.

I genuinely hope these requirements weed out those Mentors who don't deserve the title,

Oh, one of those. "I have my own definition of what a mentor should be and if they don't meet those requirements there must be something wrong with the system and not the values I pulled out of thin air". If they meet the requirements set by SE, they deserve the title. Who's to say you deserved your comms? Maybe you were paired with a premade and they figured comming someone was better than not comming at all. Cape Westwind and guildhest farm "parties" will have them rejoin the ranks in due time.

Dont think most people want the crown to help others... mostly maybe mentor roullete for the two seater pegasus
(i forgot the name)... i think this gonna be extremely frustating for people who are close on getting it but dont have the required comms for the next mentor requirement... just a wild guess though

The same method for farming quick mentor roulette clears can be applied to farming comms. It would just extend the grind is all, though with the heads-up about the changes they can do both at the same time between now and when the changes go into effect.

I believe the new notes state that existing mentors who do not make the new requirements for mentor can still post in NN but just can't do mentor roulettes.

As for a predetermined definition of a mentor, then yeah, I have one. It involves not being a douche, actually helping and giving good advice, and not giving up or getting salty after a wipe. Would you consider that to be unreasonable?

Nothing wrong with your expectations of a mentor. To many people on this forum and on reddit expect mentors to know all content including extreme fights well enough to explain them and have the patience of a saint, to stay a whole 90 minutes in an extreme trials where it's obvious the party doesn't have a snowball chance in hell of clearing then get mad when mentors recommend making an unsynced party in PF. I see mentors purpose as to explain basic game mechanics and basic information about a class or job or information about UI and HUD. To many people expect waaaaaaaaaaaay more than what SE states in game what expectations are.
