Hard disagree. The dev team just needs to swallow its pride and add instanced housing.

This will forever be the best suggestion. Better yet, attach the housing to your server/data center. Meaning for server, say you're on Leviathan and buy a house there, all characters you create or have from that point on Leviathan (with your current account) will have access to that house. If they were able to do a similar thing without crashing data centers, I'd suggest a similar thing per data center. Meaning that data center? All characters you create on that account in that data center have access to that house.

Instanced housing is great and all but people like being able to have their house be part of a neighborhood. So while instanced housing should indeed be implemented to help give people access, there still should be wards for people who want to be able to show off their house in a 'neighborhood' environment. That's where the lottery system and housing limits come into play.

If instanced housing was added they wouldn't nuke the existing system, just no more wards would be added.

Honestly I dunno about bidding but I'd take anything that doesn't involve standing at an empty plot for 8-22 hours straight for only a chance at a plot.
