Actually no, it doesn't. This particular issue goes one way only.

A huge swath of people were incredibly annoyed at FFXIV's outdated and clunky character movement and the omission of a basic jump function. Including the ability to jump wouldn't piss off anyone except small minority of FFXI fanboys who decided long ago that jumping was bad simply because WoW has it.

The only other MMOs that haven't included the ability to jump are sprite-based games where the camera is locked into a top-down, isometric view. That's not the same as a 3D game where you have full control of the camera.

Again, IF they add jumping then it should be entirely situational. I.e high ledge that our characters should be able to reach if they jump, allow the player to jump then and grab the ledge. (Think FFXIV-2). Characters should also be able to swim above water in pools and such. And underneath in certain areas. (Could be part of the Leviathan fight).

But, also allow free jumping that only lets characters lift of the ground a few inches. While running, the character should be able to jump forward.

PS. So that Lalas don't look too ridiculous doing this, let them propell themselves upward by jumping off the wall of the ledge.
(Ie Lala climbs a but then jumps higher and grabs ledge).

Could you imagine how ridiculously high the Chocobo would be able to jump?

Not that I'm opposed to it though, IF it has a purpose, Having areas that are only accessible by Chocobo could be something to consider since Chocobos are fairly easy to get and non-exclusive, on the other hand having chocobos able to jump just for the sake of being able to jump without any purpose to it other than having it seems kind of pointless. and i shudder at the thought of jump-spam (if you've played FlyFF early on you can kind of feel where i'm coming from with this) there's nothing more irritating than entering an area filled with players and everyone is just jumping, no reason, just jumping, especially if you want lol immersion .

The only issue I have with making different colored chocobos have different abilities is that you get into the whole color=stats thing we had with gear that nobody liked. If you bred for abilities/colors separately it would be great.
Different functionality != different stats. In other games, e.g. FFT A2, different chocobo colors had different functions, almost different jobs even. It's more like customizing the automaton in FFXI- e.g. the black chocobos would fly, yellow ones had a healing ability, red ones had a fire attack, etc. They're distinct enough that each one has value. If it was just stats I would agree, but different breeds of chocobos did different things in previous games. There's a precedent for that.

I for one am very glad they are adding jump for the characters. One thing I always hated with both FFXI and XIV is being glued to the ground and coming back from Star Wars: The Old Republic just made me want it more. Jump adds so much more to the game, how many times haven't people wished they could jump in FF MMO because of a knee-high elevation? In my option if it means I have to wait an extra month or two so that they can design a level that doesn't limit my character movement in any way I'm more than happy to. If I want to jump down that cliff and die, let me! I see no downsides whatsoever to adding jump, getting stuck somewhere? There is always that return feature we have and I don't see how it's any different than falling through the ground, all MMOs have bugs but the good thing with todays games, everything can be patched.

So yeah I welcome jump with open arms and hope in the future they add swimming too and don't say it's not FF, you could swim in FFX.

As far as letting mounts jump should depend on the mount. A Gobbou or Drake should not be able to jump but a chocobo should be, it doesn't have to be a jump 10 feet in the air the bird still have someone sitting on its back so around the same height your character would jump will do.

Don't limit yourself because the past games didn't have a feature, should FFXI and XIV have random encounters because FFX had them? FFXIV needs more players, not chase them away because some hardcore players don't want anything to change.

Step 1: Look at a Gobbue. Take a note of the folds of loose flabby skin
Step 2: Watch videos of old or obese people jumping
Step 3: Consider the effects jumping would have on the folds of skin on a Gobbue
Step 4: Re examine the question ... do you REALLY want mounts to jump.

Contextual jump, like Zelda, or FFXIII, please.(Yes, very different types) Would make dungeons and newly accessible areas more fun to explore. Standing around in place and doing an awkward looking hop is just... cosmetic. Why? What does it bring to the game?

You know you can do all those contextual jumps with a manual jump, which imo is much more fun than contextual jump. And the jump (not counting the Lalafel) doesn't look awkward at all, it looks pretty cool actually.

Are you guys really that afraid that people will just stand there and jump that you would not allow yourself all the good stuff and freedom that jump would bring to the game?

I think advocating free jump is really only for those that want to free jump whenever they please. So to answer your question, yes. Contextual jump where if you move forward and there's a spot where jumping makes sense is perfectly reasonable and would loads of depth to in-game possibilities. In Zelda, you could jump anywhere at a certain height above you, and control the direction and angle you jump off of things. This is as much as is necessary. I can think of loads of scenarios where this would be practical and effective, from a development/programming viewpoint and for adding depth and creativity to content in the game.

Whereas, being able to have control over whether you're standing up jumping at a fixed height and the same animation every time would add nothing to the value of FFXIV that hasn't already been done in other games, in which that context of jumping is both appropriate and necessary. As the game stands now, free jumping is asthetic. Imaginary boundaries and the layout of the world of Eorzea, do not require nor advocate the necessity for this.
