There was definitely some previous information (though I only heard it second-hand without a source) that NG+ would let you wind back to earlier expansions but not Shadowbringers.

I assume we'll be level-unsynched during normal gameplay, but we really need to be synched for solo duties. They're generally meant to have an epic "story event" feel to them, and that would be lost if you had to play them at your current level and everything dies in one hit - whether you want it to or not.

Imagine one shotting zenos during the in crimson it began quest and then seeing your character knocked flat on their ass >.<

Replaying the story on a single character without resetting your progress. That's why people were asking to be able to replay quests in the first place.

I’m going to use it to follow along with the story since some friends of mine have just started playing ffxiv.

Also it’s been a while since I’ve played though the story and I’m looking forward to the refresher.

If you can't use it to level new jobs, what is even the point? What a waste...

To redo the story without having to either pay for a jump potion to the expansion of your preference or level a character from scratch? Considering this game puts so much emphasis on story, it's hardly a wonder people would like to replay it again on the main character. Why would you get experience again? That was destroy every other avenue since the MSQ quests give significantly more EXP overall for less time spent, especially if you skip every cut scene and use it as a powerleveling method.

When i'm playing the game, i want to be achieving something. If i just want to just experience the story again i can lay down and watch it on youtube. I even have the option to skip parts. But alas... to each their own.

Then it's simply not for you. Realize that not every piece of content in the game will cater to you.

New Game + is a more on-hands experience with the story again instead of watching videos. It's a welcomed new feature and something people have asked for in years.
