One example I can give was given to me, after we wiped on the second double-group pull in Dohn Mheg.
Group consisted of PLD (me), BRD, BLM, and AST.
After the wipe, BRD said in /p:
"When I go PLD, I heal myself to make things easier on the group.

"
The way they have gave advice isn't a bad way to do it. The person is making a suggestion but isn't telling me what to do. I have a choice at that time to take the advice and apply or not.
The problem with giving advice, even if you make the focus on yourself, is one thing I have noticed:
Asymmetrical knowledge between the advice giver and the target of the advice
The advice was given after a wipe (second double pull). The BRD who gave the advice saw a tank who didn’t use Clemency on themselves. They provided advice based on their knowledge of the situation and their experience.
My knowledge of the situation was different:
1. During the first pull, I noticed we didn’t have the damage to perform the pull.
2. I went through all of my CDs
3. Healer doesn’t ABC
4. Healer likes to take damage
5. BLM lacked Ley Lines and other buffs
I didn’t provide any advice, as since the BRD struck me first with advice, any advice given from me would be seen as lashing out, even with smiley faces.
Did I have any “in the wrong” on the pull we wiped? Yes, I can blame myself some for not healing myself. How much of “in the wrong” was I in? Very little. If I did this run on another tank, this point wouldn’t matter at all.
The BLM and the healer held most of the wrong. Though, they were not targeted with advice.
I actually ran through the dungeon. I decided that me sticking around and getting at-level EXP with daily DR bonus would be worth it. Lately, I have been getting Toto-Raks, Satashas, and other pre 60 dungeons, giving me crap EXP.
So yeah, I healed myself with a 12% overheal. I parsed after our second wipe. BLM was rivaling Trust DPS damage… I pulled 4.1K DPS during that whole run, and that was with me supplement healing myself.
