Two DoTs plus Spam is less mindless than one DoT plus spam, just because you do have to do (a little) more thinking. Claiming otherwise is just silly.

Things with queues became much better in last few weeks in fact. I even see Tanks in need again. Though it's still far from how it was before 5.0.

Aether still sees both Healer and Tank in Need. A friend and I will queue up for some of the roulettes as Tank/Healer just to get the extra clusters from the Adventurer in Need bonus changing while we were queued.
Probably more than you seem to think—it seems to be the major complaint on platforms with regards to AST. AST itself may be viable, but it still has to do a whole lot more work to achieve less results compared to WHM/SCH. Viability doesn’t equate to playing well. It doesn’t even equate to balance or being in a decent spot, as the argument amongst DPS balance proves.
From the perspective of someone who played AST since HW, I think AST is in a fairly bad spot in terms of design. The new cards are extremely cumbersome to deal with compared to the past, and there’s no flavor to them. It’s just “15s Balance” and nothing else.

It's affecting everyone? Even my friends who never played this game? This is a massive problem.

Alliance roulette as the exception I see it bounce between healer and tank for most other roulettes. Sometimes I'm waiting up to 3+ minutes for 50/60/70 roulette as a tank for example.
Keyword sometimes.
Oh, so an extra DoT every 30 seconds is less mindless? No, it's the same mindless. Miasma, Bio II, spam Broil. Miasma, Bio II, spam Broil. You're still spamming Broil 8 times in a row.

Healer in need was already a thing in ARR, it was still a thing in HW when AST was introduced and will still be a thing even with 8 new super fun heal job. People don't like to play heal not tank. They will alway be in need once the starting rush as drained the majority of the sub-job leveling rush, heal could be the best job in the world, be so fun you get euphoria every spell you cast, DpS will alway get favored.

Many removed DoTs had timers of different lengths, which means reapplying a DoT would break up nuke spam.
Yes, extra DoTs are less mindless. Every little extra thing to do helps. Providing more engaging alternatives to a handful of DoTs is great, but using the failings of the old system to defend today's even worse system is a weak argument.
If it really played and felt the same, you would not see as many complaints.
Honestly, I don't even think it's just the state of healers at this point, it's just the state of the game becoming this boring homogenised "balanced" game coupled with the worlds most boring combat system I've seen in any game ever that's the problem overall.
Saying that though, I considered my self a main healer, I loved Ast before this patch, now it's incredibly boring due to nothing to think about with cards anymore, the game got "balanced" around "damage" and their cards in turn got neutered, I find my self pressing the same 1 button over and over and over for attacking and the majority of healing, which in turn means if the instance I'm doing is something I've done god knows how many times, the games "combat" does not carry this game at all, which means players like my self are literally falling to sleep during the run, the only time this isn't an issue is during savage raids and ext runs, which is a major issue when they're not exactly something you run very often.
Except you were doing it wrong if you weren’t spamming miasma II. Miasma II and art of war fill the exact same role, it’s just more obvious now that you’re suppose to spam it. A change probably made for the more casual players in order to guide them into the proper use of the skill. It was less obvious that miasma II was also meant to be spammed too.
The addition of Ed has helped the class a lot but we’re still spamming an aoe without much filler. At least bane and shadowflare gave us something else to weave into miasma II. On solo target it’s even more obvious because the actual dot durations mattered and altered decision making.
Also, I fall asleep healing on sch in dungeons, the only part that requires my attention is making sure I dissipate before everything dies.
