So as soon as he has some, he would be his own person and start being different. That difference would only grow larger the longer the clone lived until your DNA may be the same but you are completely different persons.

That's is not how that is going to play out. At least not at first. Later on down the line, they may acquire rights. Doubt it will work the way you think it will right out of the gate, but I could be wrong. I imagine we'll see soon enough. However, as it stands now other cloned animals aren't even afforded the same rights as their counterparts. So the outlook isn't good.

Last time I checked, cloning research on humans is prohibited. Even stemcell research is a contentious subject, so I'm not expecting fully grown human clones anytime soon.

You may want to check again. Currently in the US there are no federal laws regulating human cloning in the United States, with the exception of laws and policies restricting the federal government from funding human cloning research. It should be noted that this regulation doesn't prevent the funding to private institutes researching cloning. On a state level only 15 states have banned reproductive cloning and an additional three only banned public funding for reproductive cloning. Furthermore, no such laws govern international territories where research is being conducted. The UN tried to get a discussion universally banning it in 2001, but it failed, as it required the ban on therapeutic cloning as well. I'd imagine it may happen sooner than you're expecting. To be fair there are other obstacles but legality is only a small portion.
