I had an alt that was ast. I actually rolled him specially to be a healer and only a healer and ended up really only playing ast since I enjoyed the job so much.
He's a dancer now.

SE proved they cannot balance nothing from 3.0 to 5.0, people are like sheep when it comes to clearing raids, they look to the big dog raiders and say we have to do it like them from party composition, buff windows and what DPS each person should be pushing out. Because of these sheep, they have ruin the game following Metas, SE said people wanted only balance, who are these people you say, twitch viewers who watch hardcore raiders ***** about where is my Balance? Ast is ruined now, so throw it all out and give utility to healers only. Ast card system can be reworked to benifit Ast only, Mp regen, Spell speed increase, Magical defense. lets be real 5.0 card system is garbage, damage only utility that we have to piece together 2 cards and 1 Divination or 4 cards to get 1 4.0 Balance is not fun.
Interestingly healer spots fill faster than dps spots for EX trials lately, with tanks being the in-demand role. There are also more healers than ever in my FC, where we used to be short on them for events. Perhaps it's different in Savage upwards, but at the semi-casual end healer popularity (in particular WhM) has spiked considerably.
I think that part of the problem is the community's mentality.SE proved they cannot balance nothing from 3.0 to 5.0, people are like sheep when it comes to clearing raids, they look to the big dog raiders and say we have to do it like them from party composition, buff windows and what DPS each person should be pushing out. I find from a gameplay point of view this has been the most "imbalanced" expasion. Other expansions you had maybe 4 jobs that got the short end of the stick. This expansion it feels like it's an entire role (3 jobs) + almost half of the DPS and the tanks are okayish (with people being mostly unhappy with WAR and DRK so that's half of the tanks) so i'm seeing complaints across the roles on multiple jobs. It kinda sucks...
the thing is how the community reacts to this. Oh you play a job that is not pulling top DPS according to the theorycrafters? we don't want you.
Despite its flaws the devs make it easy enough to clear content with every class. The community just decides to keep certain jobs out because the top people played those jobs and showed of their potential.. regarless if the common player can reach it or not.
(I am still amused by how one group who does the world first race decided to use DRK to clear back when DRK was basically being trashed by the community. The player liked the job and they did it)
With that said people who pull this off seem to be mostly a minority (a loud minority...). I have never been randomly kicked out of a pug savage raid because i'm playing AST and not the other 2.
I'm about to give up. I honestly hate being green DPS, I wish there was more to heal and less predictable healing to be done. I feel like I do so much DPSing in most content now that I should just roll DPS instead. :/
Which unfortunately led to the devs to that cling for months, insisting DRK was perfectly fine when it sorely lacked the kits offered by WAR and PLD. Just because everything can clear content does not mean they are well balanced. Currently, jobs aren't being excluded due to meta. The gap between certain ones is so wide, it's straight up better to bring a lesser skilled player on an overpowered job than bringing one of the weaker ones.
Sadly, this is unlikely to change. Despite all the comments about wanting healers to feel more like healers, they refuse to tune content around that philosophy. Even at the Savage level, stuff just isn't hitting hard enough to warrant consistent healing. I mean, when you can have flares stack with the party and it barely put a dent in their bloated HP pools, it says a lot.

Quit healing and tanking. Just playing Machinist and Dancer now, they have homogenised most the jobs to the point they have lost any sense of identity.
I’ve quit healing as well. Dancer was my first 80 and it’s just made the previous jobs I’ve mained feel a bit boring. I have my white mage maxed and still give it some gear, but I can’t find myself wanting to play it at all. Even back in Stormblood, I’ve been slowly losing interest in playing my WHM/AST, but no job kept my attention until now I guess.
I've ben finding the opposite, with healers being the in-demand job. I can get an instant queue when going in as WHM or AST, but have to wait for several minutes before finding a queue on Paladin. It likely varies between data centres, but certainly Chaos is one where healers are in high demand and short supply.Interestingly healer spots fill faster than dps spots for EX trials lately, with tanks being the in-demand role. I haven't 'quit' healing, but it's far from my preferred role these days. WHM was my 'main' from before ShB so it was only natural to use it to power through the story, hence why it was my first level 80 class, but I haven't really touched it much since. I mostly use it for the occasional dungeon when queues on pally are too long and I need to fulfil wondrous tails requirements or earn tomes.
I know. Really, I feel like the game could do with a proper encounter design revamp that brings healers toolkits into play more. I really miss Heavensward healing. 2.0 Healing as well. Where we were overtuned with OCGD heals, and had to use a lot of GCD healing and didn't need to DPS nearly as much. It's just so sad for me. I've been healing since 1.0, so saying goodbye to my favorite role sucks.Originally Posted by ForteNightshade
