PETITION: Regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV Steam Version (Mar. 8)

This similar issue impacted me, but in the opposite way. I am not longer able to use the steam client and features I paid for... just because I previously bought windows version. I feel very alienated by this change, as I showed my support not once, but many times over with my purchases. Why would I pay for the game twice, on two different windows platforms if I can't even use the game on one of them? Please allow us to apply our steam keys to our service accounts, with the windows key... thank you for your time and consideration.

2nd: If you are worried that a program that merely uses 100MB of RAM and does nothing while you play the game seizes up your PC, maybe it's time to upgrade your toaster. After all PS3 support was ended as well.

i hate non helpful "suggestions" like this in your 2nd, you realize not everyone is well off yes? in fact lots of people are struggling to make ends meet these days, a computer is a luxury, a console, the same, and the steam client with its overlay HAS been known to cause issues in various games, so regardless of how few resources it takes, to run steam itself, its the overlay that's the real problem

as for me i hated the idea of this, i was running the windows launcher, i didn't have the option of steam or windows myself because a friend got it for both of us on a whim through steam, picked it back up years later and from the moment i did it was nothing but hassles simply because i had the steam version, i personally feel that since its an MMO, meaning:

1. you HAVE to pay a sub
2. you HAVE to buy the game

so tell me, where is the possibility of fraud? if they can show a reasonable possibility of fraud then ill clam up, but from where i sit, i just don't see it for the reasons stated above, and also as someone pointed out, they are so worried about fraud, yet i still constantly see bots in the main towns spamming websites for RMT, that's not steam related, i promise those people just have their bots through the trial, and probably even have their gold source through trial bots, which again wouldn't be affected by this change in the slightest

I'm confused. Why not just disable the overlay? Also, because the Steam patch uses no authentication servers, you can simply run Steam in offline mode. Steam uses WAY less resources in offline mode.

It's nice to have when it's working properly. because it has a lot of QoL options. Personally I had to turn it off because it was contributing to various issues. Whether it was THE issue or not, I can't say. But it conflicts with a lot of games, sadly, that aren't very supportive of overlays. Considering SE still doesn't know how to get their own engine to function smoothly (hence all the DirectX errors people seem to get, and a ton of people deal with them to varying degrees) I doubt they will do much about this either.

Fraud was simple. Just takes stopping to think a moment.

When the accounts are stolen, even the Steam versions didn't require you to be logged in to play, making it far easier to not only Steal the account but also to use the account without being traced. The person could even use mogstation to use Steam Funds to steal from said steam account if it had any, and again be untraceable.

This is how most gold is ill gotten in FFXIV in large sums. And while people may not like the change, it was one of the few SE could come up with, requiring the Steam version to login Steam to be played, to help prevent theft and to more easily get things sorted once the account was noticed as compromised.

Erm sorry but FF-XIV isn't exactly a demanding game. You don't need some super expensive 2080Ti gamer rig for it.
I'm playing it on an ancient (in computer terms) 7.5 year old machine and even I don't notice steam's impact in the slightest. Why? Because unless you set it to update while you playing, it does exactly -nothing- and is just sitting there.

Yes I know not everyone is wealthy. Guess what: I'm one of them poor buggers earning barely more than minimum wage. Even I know that there comes a time when a computer is simply too old and further struggle is useless. Every hobby costs money.

Yes the overlay has been buggy but there is a simple checkbox to disable it (rightclick -> preferences on the game in library view). Use it if it gives you trouble (I have disabled it as well b/c I don't need steam features).

So apparently 5.1 will bring a new launcher... but there was no mention of Steam and how it will affect the users
