This game's dreadful housing system is pushing me to drop the game

My FC and I have been looking for an FC house ever since our inception before the launch of Shadowbringers. Initially we were 'picky', wanting a nice spot. After a lot of unsuccesfull 'camps' we've adjusted our goals to 'anything goes'. This journey to get a house has been nothing short of soul crushing and I am baffled this system remains in the game.

This evening me and two other company members, resolved to camp yet another plot. We were going to sit at the placard all night. We stood by this plot for five hours, the vast majority of which spent spamming the placard. At 1:30 someone comes up and within 5 minutes buys the plot from under our noses.

This feeling of defeat and pointessness is so vile and toxic it made all three of us consider whether this game was even worth it. Should I be asking you to reimburse me part of my subscription, since it was spent doing absolutely nothing because of a system that's apparently working as intended?

The housing as it works right now is honestly sapping all of my will to keep playing. I preferred the outrageous prices houses held previously, because at least earning gil has me actually playing the game. I keep hoping there will be an actual solution, but the only thing I've heard so far is more wards. What a pathetic fix to a horrible system. You should be ashamed this is allowed to be on live servers. No housing would be better than this farce.

It was your choice to be doing nothing with your time other than camping a placard, knowing full well there was always a chance you still would not get that house.

Why should SE reimburse you for something you chose to do?

If you and your FC members wanted a house that badly, why didn't you take advantage of free transfers to Twintania when the server opened? You had an opportunity, at no cost to you, following a short wait to guarantee you'd get a FC house that you claim is so important to your enjoyment of the game but you chose to bypass it. You would have been able to continue playing with your other friends on Odin and the rest of the Light data center, plus you'd be relaxing in your new house right now.

If you don't enjoy the game enough to keep playing it without a FC house, you still would have ended up quitting even if you got one. This isn't a housing game so a house alone wouldn't keep you satisfied in the long run.

I was in the game from launch in 2013 and it took me until 2017 to get a FC house. I'm not gonna lie and say I think the system is fine, but it's also kinda bizarre to make an FC that new and think you're gonna get a house immediately.

Yes because hiding highly inportant FC functions and tying them SOLELY to housing in a system where housing is extremely scares is an amazing idea! Sure will get the new subs lining up as soon as they find out that caveat of information.

In all honesty, I did quit the game after the new housing district was opened in Stormblood. I was a part of a high populated server, and of course I was unable to get a house. I remember my partner and I worked really hard to get enough gil for it. We are casual players so we took our time to earn enough gil. But I'm not posting in this thread to complain.

I've returned at the start of Shadowbringers, and my partner and I switched to a low population server because we ultimately wanted to get a house and realized that a server transfer was the best way to achieve that. So we did, and we got our first house right after transferring!

I know the housing system isn't the best system out there but if we want something we have to be flexible to obtain it. I don't believe square will ever change their housing system given how far along the game is, so you should try to adapt.
