I've heard this is because WAR was kinda designed around Stance Dancing? Without that it got more streamlined and bland.
That said, I just got into WAR and find it okay myself where as DRK I saw a rough outline of the rotation at level 70 and saw that it wouldn't change for the rest of the expansion. Yeah I'm at least gonna switch to something I didn't know already.
I'm somewhat conflicted. I found DRK frustrating because I was always starved for mana in SB but at least the skills "felt" like they had large impacts on the fight. Now I have more tools for regaining mana but I'm still having to babysit 2 separate gauges that power either the Shadow Attacks or Quietus/Bloodspiller that functionally do almost the same thing. It feels so clunky, you might as well merge Edge of Shadow and Flood of Shadow with Quietus and Bloodspiller and have the blood gauge power up something more impactful and interesting.
I dont miss HW DRK one bit. Oom you just lost 10% of your attack. It was a mess to play back in HW SB it got better but was more of the same minus a DoT.
ShB DRK to me just feels better yeah big deal its a 123 123 123 rotation but lets remember after 1 enmity rotation it went to souleater combo and DA spam. So not much changed except now TBN is better then in SB.
The 3 things of HW DRK that I miss:
Blood Price + Bood Weapon : both were available out of Grit, we tank out of Grit back then, thus both always available.. I like MP regeneration emphasis taken away from Siphon and put on buffs.. Is/Should be the DRK nuance.
DA + Souleater VS Delirium : iir the only potency boosting DA effect DRK had for a GCD was for Souleater. Vanilla Souleater had less potency than Delirium. So, if you had excess MP to burn and C&S was not available relatively soon, you change GCD combo from Delirium to DA+Souleater. This worked out similiar to a Goring-RA-RA-Goring and Eye-Path-Path. It was DRKs version of that. A little more grainular, less telegraphed, but still existed in a very DRK-unique way. I miss the analysis I ran in my head after every Hard Slash (will this be a Delirium or DA+Souleater combo?).
Hard Blow resets : this is what I miss most though. It's DPS contribution was relatively small, probably less than 3% overall.. BUT it worked like BRD Bloodletter resets or Straight Shot procs, that mechanic on a tank - especially for an oGCD I thought felt great. Even though Low Blow wasn't much overall DPS, it was still highest priority Action to execute. The reason being whenever Low Blow is available, there was a chance the DRK could miss out on a reset (from a Parry proc that could possible proc another reset). The risk of losing a possible reset made Low Blow high(est) priority Action. Shield Swipe did not work this way, it had a 15second cooldown on use that could not reset, meaning PLD had forgiveness for holding back on it. But Low Blow, if available, you wanted to use ASAP to avoid the risk of missing out on another possible reset (ie a bonus 100 potency hit). I liked the urgency of that and wish a tank role Job still had it.
