Would be nice if Rapid was actually worth something... since it's suppose to help expedite the synth.
Rapid is completely useless unless you are crafting something 20+ ranks below you.

Even then rapid sucks because 8 times out of 10 it fails then you end up spamming standard anyways.
Scrap rapid, and add "Don't use" because that's what it is right now, lol. - My piece of off topic information for the day.
This is because it takes WAAAY more skill to forge a Longsword blade than it takes to put a longsword together ......
I think they are making the crafting system WAY too realistic. Have you noticed that just about every recipe in the game is a real life recipe? I have... It just has an unrealistic method to use realistic materials in these realistic recipes. Whoever was behind the Synthesis concepts in the old team sucked at fantasy lol.
As for why base materials are higher rank than finished materials usually...
You can put LEGO blocks together, but do you know how to make the actual blocks?
The streamlining from the recent patch made selecting from the Recipes tab much less cumbersome (about half the number of clicks/inputs). Speeding up the physical actions (not too much, super-fast gathering animations look strange for example) and reducing menu lag would be enough.
Actions don't need to be sped up, they need to reduce the ammount of actions on average needed to complete a synth. IE: Increase the progress for every action, but also increase the rate at which the durability lowers. I don't want rapid synthesis to be a blur because it's animation was sped up x3.
Actually since one of the recent patches, depending on when I use rapid, it works 100% of the time. Also perfection helps in guaranteeing the success of rapid. Theres also the ability that increases the odds of rapid synthesis succeeding in general for 3 actions.
my biggest issue is being rank 30 and blowing up mats that are level 1, it always cracks me up when I'm r30 and I pop a r10 synth to no end. I love the mechanics and complexity of crafting, it adds a entirely new dimension to the game that has never before been seen. Getting a craft to max rank should be time consuming and very tedious, but it should also be very rewarding. Max rank crafters under any circumstance should want for nothing. Max rank crafters should be in high demand, and the nice thing is the repair system kinda enforces this a bit.
The fact that Perfection works 100% of the time is flawed, in about 500-600 synths of using Perfection I've seen it fail twice.
No screenshot to prove this, but I'm sure many people have had this happen before as well. Perfection is still beast anyways.
99 Progress, 1 dura, Oh what to do?!?! Perfection => Standard, 100% progress - 1 dura. Owned.
I love the crafting system, but yes it needs to be faster. I like the idea of much faster part synths and about the same or slightly faster equippable item synths, since you usually won't be mass producing the latter and it should take a bit more effort.
It should also use materials in line with the item you're making. Yes, it's more "realistic" if you want to use the (somewhat dubious) lego analogy made earlier, but this is a game, and it's a bad game mechanic to have a synth basically lie to you about its required level. That'd be like an enemy that was level 10, but you needed to be level 30 to actually kill it because it has a single ability that will one-shot anyone at its actual level. Come to think of it, I've run into some of those in this game too..well anyway.
As far as it taking reams of effort to get max level...well, this game is very crafter friendly but it shouldn't be crafter-exclusive. I remember what a horror story it was in FFXI to get geared as I leveled because the vast majority of gear was crafted, and it often required you to do (VERY boring and tedious even by MMO standards) farming or the finite amount of BC/KS runs you could do for money. Crafters should be able to get by, but it shouldn't be at the cost of forcing everyone else to grind for huge amounts of time to be able to afford their items, especially since this game as a whole doesn't follow the usual MMO paradigm of being able to get at least somewhat level-appropriate gear from quest or mob drops.
