Don't forget that the Final Fantasy franchise usually has the legendary Ribbon armour. A small simple item which offers enormous defence. Its a shame I haven't seen it in FFXIV yet.

While as a visual trend this does happen I don't think it's a fair comparison to XIV.
In Persona 3 and 4 that gear is definitely strong in stats and you can tell in battle.
As a whole I'm the one making bad comparisons here too in P4 one wrong move can wipe out your entire party but in XIV you can just keep that axe swinging because the worst thing that can happen is your gear getting a minor dent in it.

God I love P4 so much it's insane. Can't wait for golden version on vita.

Now that is a really good example of a battle system that is fun and all RPGs can take inspiration from.
