Or some people just want to get their loot and go about their day instead of wasting time waiting for people to play the timer game. Everything is not a conspiracy. When everyone screams at you to roll ignore them, there are three things you need to remember with rolls in eden.
1. Once everyone has rolled on an item the highest roll for that specific piece gets it.
2. You can only win one item per week.
3. Everyone rolls tacticly to try and get the piece they want, screaming at people to roll on everything is a dirty little trick people use when rolling tacticly.
So people pass on the items they don't want, and hold off rolling on the ones they do. They then wait for these pieces to go before rolling on the ones they want. This way they have less competition for the items they want.
Some people wait it out, others try to presure people to roll on everything even tho they have not in the hopes that they will. That way the item they want is not rolled on by them so does not complete but others do since everyone has rolled, so the people that have given into the demands to roll get something else lessening the competition.
So you roll 99 on the belt, others want it so they start demanding everyone rolls on everything, so you go ahead and roll, since the demanders have not rolled on this piece but everyone has rolled on others you win a differant piece instead and they get a better chance at it instead.
It is a nasty trick played by some people, passing on the stuff you don't want and waiting for it to go fair does. But they using roll pressure to get others to roll on everything and clear stuff they don't want, even tho they have not rolled on everything themselves.

I highly, highly doubt this is the motive for people who tell people to hurry up and roll, unless you can provide evidence that this is actually a thing. It's probably due more to people not knowing what gear they want/need in advance and trying to decide what they want.

Easiest way this works is only roll on the specific sets you want and pass everything else. Never roll on things you dont want as those may be awarded to you if everyone's roll is in and you have the highest roll for that item.
If youre going in Fresh for the week, and could use 3 different items (lets say helm, gloves, or boots), Roll on those drops and once you secure one of the 3, only roll on that drop in the subsequent fights to ensure you get the matching set pair so you can get the item. Pass on everything else when you dont need it.
If you lose the roll (which doesnt happen to often to be frank) youll have to run the fight again till you get it. Again that, in my experience, doesnt happen to frequently. But for that same reason, you should run Eden Earlier in teh week to make sure you get the items before reset. Dont try getting gear 2 hours before reset. You might just get crap RNG and not get anything you need.

That's not where it becomes a problem. Its "people dont want to wait 5 minutes" and have half the stuff rot because someone wants a helm and 2 people wants boots and 1 person wants gloves but someone doesnt want to roll on anything or just pass stuff they KNOW they dont want (like helms for a vast majority of jobs).
^^^ this is where it becomes a problem. With normal raids I tend to go into each floor with a "I want X piece, but if I dont win it, ill grab an accessory so I dont have to re-clear the floor". I assume most people do similar.
If WHM wants feet, but will settle for head, and BLM wants head but will settle for feet, this leads to a deadlock.
Don't deadlock the loot. Need the thing you want, pass the things you don't. If after 60s the things still aren't distributed, Need or Pass your alternate choices.
Most of the tokens drop in all the raids now. You don't need to hold loot tokens hostage for the whole five minutes.

I see now, thanks everyone for explaining things. As to why I rolled on items I didn't need it was simply because I was being lazy. I didn't want to have to redo the fights lol. So that's on me. From now on I'm only going to roll on what I need and just pass on the rest. For some reason I had it all backwards. I thought that whatever you rolled highest on is what you got. I didn't really stop and think about how it worked. Not realizing that I does one item at a time basically (well not really but whichever items have been fully rolled on first). So like if there's five items and evryone rolls on #1 but only two of us roll on #2 and I get a 99 on #2 I'm going to win #1 if I have the highest roll or everyone else passes on it. I really just wasn't thinking. Normally with the regular raids I just roll on everything until I get what I want and give the extra stuff to my alts which is what I'm doing...but normally I'm a little more luckier than I have been lately lol.
And I get why people don't want to wait around for five minutes because I'm one of them. Sure some people are trying to trick you into rolling fast so they can get what they want but I believe the vast majority of people are just like me and have other things to do. I just couldn't get my head around why I didn't win a 99 roll plus it was the first time I've ever even rolled a 99. Now I know better. They're not too much of a pain to redo so I'll try that next week. I'll give it 3 or 4 attempts and if I don't get it then just roll on everything and give the extra stuff to my alts that way I don't spend all day on it especially since I'm now working on attaining better gear from the newer tomestones. Nearly got my weapon so the rewards from Eden will be obsolete for my main.
Thanks everyone for the advice and for getting it through my thick skull how this all works. This one was all on me and not the other people in the groups I've been in. I just didn't want to hit pass and have to redo it too much is what it all boils down to. Sorry it took me a bit to respond. Been under the weather lately.
